And one hint, take your kid to walk around in RC today during school hour if possible, and go play with him inside (hope you can see my message). So he will get familiar with the environment earlier before the interview. Good Luck!

Thank you for your advice.

I think my kid is an experienced interviewee for the last few months, (he has attended few DSS interview before) he appears not only without stress and scare before the interview but also with a clearly describe of the entire procedure and content for the interview.

The interviewer is a foreign teacher , when the kid depart from the reception then start to talk in English, the interview include playing puzzle, reading story books, vocabulary and frank talk.

Anyway, this is the last interview for my kid and completed the entire task for the P1 admission.

Thanks “popolung” for your useful information and kindly assists.

May I know, which Primary School for your kid?

Once again, thanks a lot.

yes, CWBS stand for ClearWater Bay School, also under ESF.

Yes they are now also IB PYP already

I think they switched to IB recently, but RC is using IB since day 1.

Well, depends I will say. IB is not as relax as GCE anymore. They also have certain amount of homework, and they need your kid to have creative thinking to learn and study. If you are a parent that can guide your kid via, it is good.

DSS homework may be tough (depend on school and how you look at the way they teach) but since most parents are from local stream, you may think this is normal, and the local syllabus have certain format and study material to follow. So some parents will think it is good.

For me, if I were you, I will choose RC of course, no doubt!

Be frank, if RC accept by kid, I think I will accept without doubtful. However, I have another concern: some of the DSS or PS they also alleged establish the IB mode, if compare to the RC (of course, RC is an accredted IB school from Primary to Secondary) with the DSS, PS, the school fee is cheaper than RC,
In fact, we can't to compare the DSS with the IS together, RC is a accredited IB school, another DSS just adopt the IB mode since secondary stage, therefore, my final target is IS. If my kid fail at RC, I still have 2 DSS for selection.

According to your description, your child will have a good chance to have an offer.
Personally, I don't believe local school running IB in the first day...
These management (principal, senior) and teachers are running the local mode for a long long time in the local environment, striving for better HKCE result, higher hit rate at University admission. And then one day when they wake up, they are told to switch to IB. What do you think? Local mode : C&C  (comparison & competition) has already tattooed in their genes. (or to be polite, their historical burden is huge.) How can they totally adopt the mode of IB and give up C&C immediately?
Of course, all these feeling is only just from my personal experience in an "IB" "international" kindergarten.
[Other parents (esp. DSS parents) disagree with me, pls. feel free to share.]
Yes. If your final target is IS, I agree that RC should be your first choice.

Thanks your reply.

I don't think my kid have a good chance to have an offer because I think his performace just fair only. I must say that RC is a higher standard requirement school, and not easy to join them.

I just want to share the IB mode adoptation for local PS and DSS.
GT, LA and CKY also alleged they adopt the IB mode, but of course, they just provide IB  mode since secondary stage. Some of the parents said that a large number of teacher under the IB training now (for those alleged adopt IB mode DSS). We can't to suspect which school can obtain the IB accredit first, may be some of the parent they don't care the school is adopt IB or not, they just want a "English" Primary school only. But I'm tired for the traditional education system in HK, force and stress make the student so harsh, learning become without interest...so pity picture..I don't know I can select the right way for my kid or not at this moment, but I can't sustain learning without interesting for my kid.

I'm fully agree your point of view.

Thanks your reply and enchourage,  RC is my final task, It is not easy to get offer from this school. I havn't tried my best, successful or not is mainly depends on my kid's performance, I know he can go to interview without scary and handle smoothly, but the interview for IS have a great difference with the DSS, there were many high standard kids together to fright for the very limited seats; Anyway, he can obtain few DSS offer, and have chance to "select" under this "game rule", I think I'm fortune and I still  have  "rights" to "select" the schools..

Maybe you are blaming yourself for not applying Year One a year ago, where the competition may be not as keen as Year 2; or you are blaming yourself not going to an IS since K1 if your target is RC; or you are blaming yourself not providing intensive training in English long before interview.
But please don't do that. Life is fully of "give and take". Be positive. Don't only focus on what you missed but ignore what you have earned after you have made a decision (e.g. studying in local kindergarten instead of Int'l kindergarten). There is no absolutely correct or wrong discussion. That's life.

Thanks for your respond.
hahhaa, I'm not blaming myself, just to share..

In fact, my kid is study in IS kindergarten from K1-K3, even it is not a famous kindergaren, but I have found what have "take' from this school; if not, I'm sure he can handle the English speaking with the interviewer and completed the English worksheet during the interview.

I just want to share that, this kindergarden let him learn more, he starts the reading programe with reading log each week since K2, "show and tell" let him brave to face many ppl. to speak English without fear. Just these 2 points, I think I have the "haverst"..brave to face the stranger to speak English and establish the reading habbit..that's the "haverst", Meanwhile, his Mandarin  speaking also well.

One of the DSS, the induction speech alleged no Mandarin speaking in the interview; however, my kid told me when he play the Lego during the interview, the interviewer use Mandarin to ask him all the "English version" question once again; therefore, I never blame myself why don't apply K3 in RC, in fact, the result of the interview for the DSS is a powerful "proof" to let me know what he had obtained and learnt from the school.

I'm relief that my kid can pass few DSS interview and have choice to "select"....If RC accept, it seems a first prize for me and with a perfect full stop for the entire P1 admission task since Jun 2008.

Many thanks to your anchorage, in fact, the RC already informed before the interview with alleged that 2009-2010 Year 2 is currently at full capacity, an offer will be confirmed subject to the year level's vacancy availability. Therefore, I'm clearly understood that RC must maintain the current student “benefit".  For my information, RC already told me that have received over 80 applicants for Year 2, basically Year 2 is "fit-in" apply, therefore, I think the rate for me to get the offer almost in zero percentage, but anyway, I never blame anyone, this is the fact, all schools must maintain the most beneficial condition to their current student.

Many thanks to all of you kindly reply my question.

I know "fit-in" apply will be keen to join the RC.
I think I can't wait until Aug, coz I must apply the local education allowance for my kid, I must submit the application form with the selected school name to Treasury Department on or before Jun.
I msut tell you that before interview, RC already alleged that the coming academic year is in fully capacity right now, they only to offer the seats while the vacanices when available. Be frank, I 'm clear to understand that, maintain the benefit to their current student is the first priority..so, I'm cheer and no worry to face that. I still cheer that I stil have rights to "select" the school...

I will select the IBD DSS.

I applied DC for Year 1 last Sep as well. I was told by their admission manageress during a school tour in last Oct that once I paid the application fee, I will be on the waiting list and they may call you later (months, 1 year, 2 years...10 years later) for interview when vacancies are available; unless you declined their offer or request to remove yourself from the waiting list.
That means the whole waiting list will be "promoted" automatically from Year 1 to Year 2,... as time goes by. (At the time, I was told that there were still 70 or 80 applications in their waiting list for Year 1 in 2008/09. Then they will becoming the waiting list of Year 2 in 2009/10 after Sep 09)
Both RC and DC are ESF's PIS. I suppose they are running in more or less the similar way in admission procedures.
So, it is very important to call/email RC directly regarding your application status and what you should do next if you are still considering of their Year 3, 4 ,5 .... in the coming years.
From my perception, you don't need to fill the form and pay the fee again but don't believe me. You must clarify with the school directly.

I am hoping that he could get into CWBS, but it sounds that it's quite difficult. Do you have any clue?  Shall I join all school activities or anyway you think would get a better chance? Thanks!
