The 155th Anniversary Concert in the HK Cultural Center was indeed a professional performance. The orchestra, chorus, customes and stage design were all of high standard. Every audience can feel being part of the big family of St Paul, a school with history and tradition. St Paul is high in music standard and the boys are not just 'bookworms' but fun with sense of humour. The participation of St Paul old boys and also St Stephen's Gilrs in the big chorus were also enlightening. The atmosphere were great and wonderful. I really enjoyed the show that night!

- What is this school's teaching approach?  Traditional or stimulating? - I think the school adopts both approaches. On one hand, they have dictations every week (traditional??), but on the other, they adopt activity mode in lessons like oral & Eng. Projects sometimes. There is also the CCA lessons at the end of every week to give students a moment of relax. THe theme differs every few months - physical exercise, cookery... quite interesting.

- Is the homework loading really heavy? - It should be acceptable. May require a period for adaptation at the beginning, but should be ok afterwards.

- Have you heard any of the moms have to quit their job in order to coach their kids on homework? - yes, but there are also mums who quit their jobs at the beginning but work again afterwards.

- How is the English standard?  Average?  Or, Chinese-oriented? - I think the Eng standard is quite good, at least much better than me when I was in the same grade as my son.

- Is it usual for students have to attend private tutor class in order to get good results? - There are but I can't comment if it is 'usual'.

- Since both DBSPD & this school are DSS boys schools, how would you compare between the two?

I find the competition is rather keen. My son ranked 18/90 (3 classes). He has only 4 marks difference with the 1st one in the grade.

1.  P4 General Studies includes two parts, one is taught in Chinese and the second part is in English.  The English text books, New General Studies, are from Educational Publishing House.
2.  教育出版社的"快樂學語文"
3.  Although the number was different from yr to yr, it was over 85%.  
4.  Sorry, no info on hand.

The price of text book sales day is cheaper than other book stores?

Well, didn't check this point, but it's more convenient & tidy to have all books bought at school. Apart from the 10%, off, the HK Book Center will deliver all those outstanding ones to school without the need for us to walk around.

Thx HL's parent's wonderful arrangement, my son and his mates played football for 5 hrs last evening.  What a treat for the boys after the exam.

That's for P1 level. For P5, the scenario is totally different. The level of the papers, especially the English comprehension one, is so high that most of the boys couldn't even finish it. The majority got less than 70 marks. Its level is at least a few jumps from the P4 level. May be the school wants to train them to be tough!

As far as I know, the principal will mainly look for the interview performance of the kids. There is no special preference on the kindergarten. My son was only from a very ordinary kinder as well.

印象中P1沒有 Maths ECA，對六歲小朋友，圍棋班可能是一個更合適的腦力ECA 。

但香港小朋友太多腦袋ECA了，我推舉足球班。雖然昨天對某足球學校時又吃了８隻蛋，但連P3都有份落場，兼可以順道早一點培養 AQ。

Yes, there are 4 ER classes with color as class name.  A few years age, the colors were purple, yellow, green and red.  

The school does work hard not to put too much pressure on the students.  It is easy to spot the best group but not easy to identify the standard of the remaining three.

Also, the boy scout will start at P4. There will be a simple selection process by the school at P3.

明天(22/11/08)是2008 - 2009年度港島西區小學校際足球比賽。比賽總共有31间小學分组爭出線, 經過六場苦戰,SPCPS最終進入總决賽, 明天聖保羅 SPC vs 聖保羅 SPCC大戰，爭取總冠軍。

各足球興趣班的同學及家長们，請移步到硬地場,為校隊打氣!

SPC is the first runner-up.  Lost the game by a very last minute's goal.  Well done la!!!!
