You are such a brave mom to let your girl to fly at such young age. So far I know most AFS students have so special experience in other world that lead them open-minded and more appreciated. And it is no harm that she takes a break year and return to take Form 4 continuously.
I know some very good French friends. They are very warm and sincere once you really know them so it would be easier to keep long distance friendship.
