I think the level of york international stream the same, but local stream weaker than sc.  York Chinese stronger. York k1 knows how to write many Chinese words, but st cat k1 not even started writing Chinese. For mandarin I think st cat shd be stronger.
Both schools use Oxford reading tree.

My kid now studying Stafford k1 (she's a small b) syllabus same as York international stream, she can read and understand 70-80% of a 8-9 year old book. At home she's reading Roald Dahl Charlie and the chocolate factory, fantastic mr. Fox.  Mr men too easy for her, she can read all by herself even read to my maid who doesn't quite know English. Of course not everyone is like her, she's exceptional in English reading, writing and spelling.
York international stream and stafford are v strong in English. I attended their k2 full day students phonics class and I was awed. Everyone has perfect english accent and the phonics teaching method the school used is advanced.

Yes. York and Stafford r famous in English. Ppl chose these schools not only they are easier to get in, but also can save $$ and time going to extra English classes.

I bought some books for 4-5 yo but they are way too easy. even she said 'they are too easy for me!' I skipped 6-7 years and jumped to 8-9 and she still can read and understand many words. I don't want to jump to advanced level but she lose interest in the 4-6 years old books.
She studied in Stafford K1 and the books are too easy for her. On the day we collected and brought all the school books back home, that was 1 year ago, she could finish reading all the English books by herself without guiding or teaching her, and at that time she was only 2.5 years old. I think it's a god's gift+she watched too many cartoons, she self learned by herself.

she only likes watching cartoons with captions, because sometimes she cannot hear very clearly what the characters said when my baby boy was yelling or when I turned on the fan which was a bit noisy. If she doesn't know a word, she would still try hard to pronounce and 90% of the times she cld make it right.

the biggest barrier for her is she's a super super shy baby, she cannot express her talent under 'spotlight' (i.e. when many people around her). it's a disadvantage to interviews and verbal exams.

I think your girl has good memor and the teacher has a good method to make them remember easily.

Do u think k1 is much more difficult than k2 syllabus?  How many exams and tests each year? And what are the test topics? Is there any written test like composition and essay writing? Want to know more abt st cat.

Hehe, I don't want to mention too much here la, because I have friends who also know my girls English is good and they may identify my ID belongs to me.
I already mentioned that she knew how to read all school books before school started, her English was good before she started k1.

My girl is good in English because English is her native language, but her cantonese is not good, she can't even pronounce her Chinese name perfectly...sigh...

Apologies for misleading some mummies here.

Stafford school fee is much more expensive before aug 2012, Basic school fee 4200 +390 snack fee per mth plus 3xxx misc fee and 1800 book fee per year, pay 11 mths school fee. Snack fee is not compulsory but most kids joined.St cat 42xx per mth no snack fee only 10 mths school fee, + around 3xxx misc and book fee.

From 2012 aug-sep, Stafford still more expensive, but the difference not so big.
Stafford k1 basic school fee 4600 x 11 plus snack fee, misc fee
St cat basic school fee 44xx x 11 mths and misc fee.

St cat wil have a 15% school fee increment but still cheaper than Stafford.

Stafford is the most expensive kinder as far as I know excl intl kinder. Victoria only 45xx all inclusive no book fee no snack fee, only around non compulsory 150 or 200 book borrowing fee. Even York international stream is cheaper than Stafford which I learned from other bk mummy.

I used to be a lazy mummy so just turned on cartoons for her to watch, she watched a few hours each day. She learned a lot of English from cartoons. From 2 year old I started to teach her. I m her thesaurus, I wld teach her different words, e.g. When she read the word jump in a book, I would mention to her new words like leap, when she read a book with wordings 'come closer', I wld teach her a new word 'approach'.  Whenever I brought her out I would explain to her each thing she saw. E.g. Gas station, what is it for, she knew it when she was 2 yo.
Actually the book Peter pan she read Is a bit easy for her, she can read some more advanced but need some assistance. For Peter pan she only didnt know a few words before I taught her.
