IB今年發生"time zone cheating"

Update on May DP exams

https://www.ibo.org/news/news-list/update-on-may-2024-exams/

Published:04 May 2024
Last updated:04 May 2024

The IB is aware of speculation that aspects of May 2024 exam content have been shared online by students.
In response to the significant amount of misinformation currently circulating online, we would like to reassure our community that students will receive valid, recognized and meaningful results.

To date, there is no evidence of widespread cheating and we are confident that this activity remains at the fringes of what is otherwise a standard exam session.

We have taken immediate action to investigate the claims and have discovered a very small number of students appear to have engaged in online “time zone cheating”. Time zone cheating occurs when students who have completed their examinations share what they can recall from memory about the exam questions on social media before other students take the examination.

Time zone cheating is explicitly forbidden under our academic integrity policy.
https://www.ibo.org/about-the-ib/what-it-means-to-be-an-ib-student/responsibilities-of-students-and-ib-world-schools/academic-integrity/

We have identified the source of this activity and are taking appropriate steps to hold those responsible accountable. Where we have identified students, the IB will open a formal investigation for malpractice, and students may receive no marks for their examinations or no grade for the relevant subject. As a consequence, no Diploma certificate will be awarded, and students can also be banned from resitting any examinations.

We are acutely aware that IB students around the world have worked tirelessly to be ready to sit their exams and have held themselves to the highest of academic standards, and we are taking active steps to ensure that the integrity of the remainder of the exam session remains intact.

新加坡升中考 PSLE 按成績分流

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/psle-results-secondary-1-posting-groups-full-subject-based-banding-moe-seab-3938651

PSLE results: 98.4% of students can progress to secondary school

This is the first cohort of students to be posted into secondary schools in three groups, mapped from the existing score ranges for the Express, Normal (Academic) and Normal (Technical) streams.

SINGAPORE: For the eighth consecutive year, 98.4 per cent of Primary 6 students who sat for the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) made it to secondary school.
The PSLE results were released from 11am on Wednesday (Nov 22).

A total of 38,088 Primary 6 students sat for the PSLE this year, said the Ministry of Education (MOE) and Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB) in a joint press release on Wednesday.

This is the first cohort of students to be posted into secondary schools in three groups, mapped from the existing score ranges for the Express, Normal (Academic) and Normal (Technical) streams.

The three posting groups will be used to facilitate school admission and guide the subject levels students offer at the start of the year.

Full subject-based banding will also be implemented across 120 schools from 2024. This means students will sit for a common Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate (SEC) exam from 2027, regardless of their initial posting group.

Under full subject-based banding, students who are eligible for Posting Groups 1 and 2 may offer English, mother tongue languages, mathematics, and science at a more demanding level from Secondary 1 based on their Achievement Level (AL) scores for the respective subject.

Under the AL system, Primary 6 students will receive ALs of 1 to 8 for each of their four subjects, with 1 being the best score and 8, the lowest. Their overall score will be the sum of these ALs.

Students who scored AL 5 or better for a PSLE Standard subject can take the subject at G3 or G2 and students who scored at least AL 6 for a PSLE Standard subject or AL A for a PSLE Foundation subject can take the subject at G2.

For the 2023 Primary 6 cohort, about 64 per cent of students eligible for Posting Groups 1 and 2 are suitable to take at least one subject at a more demanding level.

This is comparable to the previous year’s cohort eligible for the Normal courses, said MOE and SEAB.

Candidates who did not qualify for entry to secondary school can choose to retake the PSLE next year.

They can also apply to Assumption Pathway School and NorthLight School with a recommendation from their primary school principal, said MOE and SEAB, adding that both schools offer customised programmes with a more “experiential and hands-on learning approach”.

SECONDARY 1 POSTING EXERCISE

The Secondary 1 option form to select secondary schools will be given to eligible students together with their PSLE results. The form provides key information regarding the submission of school choices.

A unique Secondary 1 personal identification number (S1 PIN) can be found on the top right hand corner of the option form.

Students can use the S1 PIN to log in to the Secondary 1 internet system to download a copy of the S1 option form and submit their school choices online.

The internet system is accessible from 11.30am on Nov 22 to 3pm on Nov 28 via MOE’s Secondary 1 Posting website.

How Your Child’s PSLE Score Will Decide Subject Levels in Sec 1 from 2024

https://www.mindchamps.org/blog/childs-psle-score-will-decide-subject-levels-sec-1-2024/

Come 2024, students will no longer be assigned to Express, Normal (Academic) and Normal (Technical) streams based on their PSLE scores.

Instead, Education Minister Ong Ye Kung has announced that this will be replaced with subject-based banding.

Here’s an illustration of how the subject-based banding works:

New PSLE scoring bands

Primary 6 students taking the PSLE will be graded with Achievement Levels (AL) 1 to 8 for each subject, according to a set raw mark range. AL1 is the highest level to be achieved while AL8 the lowest.
The total AL score of Sec 1 students from 2024 will determine their secondary school posting and what subjects they can take.

https://mindchamps-prod-wp.s3.ap-southeast-1.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/16222936/PSLE_Infographic-05-1280x1270.jpg

·
Understanding the three subject suites: G1, G2 and G3

With the new scoring system, there will be a set range of ALs for students to achieve in order to qualify for the General 1 (G1), General 2 (G2) and General 3 (G3) suites of subjects respectively.

Students with ALs of 4 to 20 will be able to take the G3 suite of subjects, which is the highest level and is similar to the current Express stream.

Students who score 23 to 24 will be able to take G2 suite of subjects, while those who score 26 to 30 will take on the G1 suite of subjects – with the condition that they achieve an AL of 7 or better in both English and Mathematics.

Meanwhile, those whose scores fall in between these subject suites will be able to take a mix of G1 to G3.

A boost for students who excel in certain subjects

Education Minister Ong Ye Kuang mentioned in Parliament that the current Express and Normal streams would be phased out by 2024 and replaced with the G1, G2 and G3 subject bands. Aimed at reducing the stigma of being streamed as “Normal”, the new system will allow students to learn at their own pace while recognising the different strengths of students.

Under this new system, students who excel in certain PSLE subjects can take them at a high level from the start of Sec 1 – regardless of their total AL score.

https://mindchamps-prod-wp.s3.ap-southeast-1.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/16222948/PSLE_Infographic-06-1280x967.jpg

·
In the example above, Student A  who obtained an AL of 10 will move on to take G3 suite of subjects in Sec 1.

On the other hand, Student B obtained a total score of 24. For subjects which she fared better in, she can opt to take them at the G1 level while the other subjects at the G2 level when she enters Sec 1.

Over the course of her secondary school education, she will have the option of taking subjects at higher levels progressively. According to the Ministry of Education, this option will be made available at “suitable junctures”.
