開學到而家不停比錢交費

Any school fees?  Book fees, activities fees and misc. fees are a must in all schools.  No surprise.

我的小朋友是讀直資, 但沒有這麼多收費, 只有上下學期雜費, 試過有剩餘回水, 當然參加課後活動或補習班等另收費外, 但你可自由參加, 沒其它了.

But I think for DSS, they also need to buy textbooks, right?  Books for secondary usually cost $2000 to $3000 a year as I know.  Anyway, usually we look at the overall cost and its value for money.

Yes, most famous schools raise funds all the time through alumni and parents associations.  If no school fee charged, donation of $1000 is OK.  Just maybe they should not call it as air-conditioning deposit at the beginning.
