Personal speaking, we don't suggest our kids to study with the computer so much.  Make it like a game during weekends if they got nothing to do.  Also, their school not really force to do the computer homework, just like the other way for reading.  That's what we like!
My daughters got their own computers, but once a week to check their e-mail and internet learning around 1 hour, the other 30 mins practice their typing skill.  I guess this is good enough for five to six years old girls.  And good for their eyesights.
