I think it's important to create a positive & encouraging environment.  I've recently read an article called "Attention: Overbearing Asian Parents".  It's a great article, and should be able to locate it by doing a search on google.  It talks about how Asian parents push and push and push but ends up neglecting the emotional health of your child.  Sometimes you have to give freedom to your children.  

And I agree with the above, never compare your child with someone else, because it never leads to anything good.
