Do you really think the marks are so important? Don't give him too much pressure. Like my son, he did a bad job in the dict in P1, P2, P3. I think I pushed him a lot and I spent a long time with the dict. The problem is we have less family time, more arguments, less reading time, loss of study interest. I did try and try a lot different ways for my son. Finally he did a good job in P5 dict exam.
The following are some suggestions may help:
1) read aloud 3 times is very important.
2)use four color highlight pens, highlight the difficult words, divide each 2 page into 4 regions. (e.g. highlight top left with red color, bottom with yellow, top right with green, bottom right with blue)
3)separate the sounds of each difficult word.
4)think some picture to correspond it to the difficult word
5)try to separate more study time slots (across different days)
6)each study time slot should not be too long, otherwise your kid will hate reading.
7)the most important is that you should enjoy the story yourself and guide your child to enjoy it and ask more questions and discuss with him.
8) praise him when he do well. |
