I'm also a SFXC alumni and I was in the 88 HKCEE class. I remember we got more than 150 "A"s in the HKCEE that year and the top student got 8A1B. At that time, most of the boys in YTM would place WYK / DBS as their first choice and put SFXC in second. Hence, most of the intakes at that time were top 20% in the area. Nowadays, students are more mobilized and have lots of choices like DSS / international schools. With students divided into 3 bands instead of 5, we can't expect the quality of current students are the same as the past. However, if the students can be more committed to the study and be self motivated, the DSE results of SFXC should be gradually improved once a positive learning atmosphere is established in the school. Just as what happened in the old days. SFXC students never over rely on the teachers.
Hope the current SFXC students can understand the true meaning of our School Motto - "Gentle in Manner; Resolute in Action". Once you set the targets and work hard to achieve them with perseverance, success is just around the corner!

Remembering my old days in SFXC, the school never drilled students in grammar. If the situation remains unchanged, i am surprised to learn that SFXC boys cannot get a good result in public examination.

Sorry for my mistake. Should be "i am not surprised to learn that SFXC boys cannot get a good result in public examination."

No 星級狀元 is not an issue. If you look at DGS's DSE results this year, the % of students got 5** in English Language is 50.3%. It is phenomenal!

When we compare the DSE results among different schools, we should focus on the average results instead of how many 星級狀元.

Perhaps we old boys can push the school thru our alumni network as well.

I just looked at the 2013 DSE results again. Language performance may be a bit disappointed but the 3 Maths subjects (Compulsory, M1 and M2) are phenomenal (5 - 5 ** > 40%), even better than some Band 1A schools.

No need to worry too much. SFXC has good maths public exam results traditionally. Its 2013 DSE maths results (Maths, M1 and M2 all with 5-5** > 40%) are even better than some other schools good in maths like St. Joesph College and Sing Yin. It should be very top among the Band 1B schools.
I believe it is teachers' tactics to give more difficult questions in school exam to challenge the students. When the students are accustomed to more difficult questions, they can then get good results in the "easier" DSE.

M is compulsory but still have > 40% for above 5.

Having said that, students still need to work hard in order to get good results.

can't compare to last year's results directly. i remember the chart in 2013 was showing 5**-5 while this year is 5**-4.

From the results posted in the school website, this year is the worst since the introduction of DSE.

Seems the DSE results keeps deteriorating since the new principal on board.
