From my personal perspective only:  both are good school.  All depends what you want for your child n his or her strength area.  I may recommend to choose KV as their Maths n Chinese are very good as well as their training about discipline.  As you may know, learning Chinese is far more difficult than learning English, n have good discipline is very important as well.  St Cat's strength will be good at language, see which area you preferred.  Others may have different opinions, its totally depends!!  FYI, my kid only got in the waiting list for both school only!  You are very lucky indeed!  Hope this can help! ^^

其他我都認同你既講法，我著重母語的發展，因為廣東話係好難發音既。英同普都可以遲少少學。而我亦希望從小培養他的紀律及品德，這兩方面對其日後成長很重要。

我們只是擔心KV太嚴，若令他不喜歡上校就大件事了。

Totally understand your concern as I am also struggling with the decision.  He's not so adventurous and actually reserved to new experience, I am not sure if he will enjoy the explorative learning style in St. Cat.  I also want him to learn Chinese and have good discipline, so Kentville may a good match with his personality. However, I am not sure if the teachers are too "strict" or the experience will just further encourage the development of his "reserved personality".  At times I wonder if I should give him more freedom and less structure, so that he can be braver to explore and learn...  but if he doesn't get used to that style, he will suffer and the whole schooling experience will be very negative for him.  Both decisions will have pros and cons, ai, tough choice.

Recently, all popular primary schools changed the criteria from choosing presentable kids to high academic students. At the end, KV students had advantages since KV is really a training schools.
Very simple : if parents want to study kindergarten as a stepping stone to traditional primary schools, then go to KV; if parents want good English and cheerful kids after 3 years or intending to let kinds enter int'l schools, then of course SC is better.
You could do some research on this year's K3 students' statistics.

我暫時都係prefer KV 多d, 因為我可以o係屋企同佢train Eng, 但中同數相對地難!

我反而諗LH我有eng+pth既offer, 好似好吸引, 問題只係佢唔夠kv/sc出名!

如果再多一間龍校, 仲難揀! 不過PC下年先有結果, 到時先算!

絕對同意小朋友從小培養他的紀律及品德，這兩方面對其日後成長很重要+你所擔心的問題. (因為我亦為亞仔入邊間KG思考鬥爭中..... )

Just from my son K1 experience so far, I think SC emphasis a lot on discipline and independence skill sets.
Of course, in terms of homework, my son still needs me to sit next to him to do it instead of he will take out the homework and do it by himself.

Well, I graduated from KV (or course, 20+ to 30 yrs ago), I really don’t think SC discipline is worst than KV.
Probably can’t compare the standard at those times and nowadays…..

我諗你要睇吓小朋友性格再加你想小朋友升咩小學. 我有朋友, 佢大仔服從性冇咁高, 亦冇咁有鬥心, 最終喺佢K2時KV勸佢退學. 不過, 細仔性格就完全相反, 所以一直讀到畢業.

Agreed; KV discipline好唔代表SC差
我覺得SC all round啲
KV有小小過時/有啲死讀書feel; 而家社會比較buy laugh and learn smart

KV 唔洗背書，係要默書同寫生字。我個大女讀KV，佢係有d內向同靜的，所以佢讀kv讀得好開心，一d都唔會讀到"嘔"晒喎。我個細女就好活潑，佢都考到KV am 同St Cat am，我都諗住比佢讀番KV。其實幼稚園得3個鐘，Train 得中文同數學就會少左時間Train 英文lor, 相反亦然。出去學英文好過啦。

(綜合報道)(星島日報報道)跟中六學生閒聊，問他們面對第一屆新高中文憑考試準備得如何時，異口同聲的答案是：「最怕通識科。」我問為甚麼？他們說，怕通識不及格，因為通識科目範圍太大。要背的答案太多。

「通識科要背的嗎？」我問。

「是啊！」

「通識科不是考學生對問題的理解、透過分析，寫出自己的角度嗎？」

「不要玩我啦，馮Sir！我試過根據自己的理解去答，結果不及格。老師說考公開試時，最少要寫三頁，
愈多名詞、理據引經據典愈多愈高分。」所以老師多派模擬答案，着同學多記多背。


學生愈說愈憂慮，怕通識「肥佬」，升學無望。我反安慰他們，今年通識試，絕大多數應考生必定過
關，因為如果學生大部分不及格，證明開辦通識科失敗。教統局哪會這樣摑自己一巴掌？


不過，說來可笑，通識科本來培養學生獨立分析能力，結果淪為背誦學科，失敗與否，不言而喻。


近幾年教育改革，美其名是培養獨立思維，理性分析，很多傳統學科如中文、歷史等本來要背誦，結果
因為要符合教育改革，大多廢掉背古文、詩詞。要學生做分析、做報告，等如未學行先學走。試問一個十多歲小朋友，平日對電腦多過對書本，連上堂默書背書也省掉了，他腦子裏還有多少材料，供他獨立分析和思考？


有時舊式教育方法也有好處。小孩記性好，只要背得琅琅上口，不明白也不用介懷，人慢慢成長後，才
會明白箇中道理。今天的學生，就是少了背書的機會，如果學生從小學多背一點書，底子厚了，求知慾自然增加，「不學」已然通識，何須另開科目？
