My son will start P1 in DBSPD this coming Sept. Does anyone know whether there will be any Primary 1 preparatory classes this summer for these new comers?

Hi,

School will arrange several days to all new boys in the last week of summer holiday. The purpose is to let them feel more familiar with campus, rules and teachers faces.

Hi civic,

Thanks for the info! Can I also check with you the following:

1. Do most children order lunch from school? What's the quality of food like?

2. If my helper were to bring lunch to him everyday, can she stay behind to collect the flask afterwards so he need not carry extra item after school?

3. Are there any ECA after school for P1 students?

4. It's a big jump for a 5-6 year old to move from kindergarten to P1. Any suggestion how I can better equip for his new life at DBSPD?

Dear Chatterbox,

1) In my son's class, most boys order lunch. Since the canteen cook the lunch, the quality is good, for my son. He eats a lot and always tell me they are delicious.

2) You are not allowed to bring lunch box to school. School does not want some one to be special, I think.

3) What do you mean by ECA ? If you are talking about the extra activities, yes, they have a lot in morning (Before school) and after school

4) I unedrstand there is big changes and I think he should be trained to be more independent because he needs to change sport suit in school, and I see that most boys is doing a mess at the very beginning because maid helps to do that at home.

Dear Peggychai,

Don't worry, they don't have too much homework. Sometimes they have 1-2 types but on Friday, they may have 4-5.

English and Chinese dictation on every alternative week, 2 tests and 2 examinations a year.

Do they have swimming during their PE lessons for P1? If so, are they expected to shower and change by themselves as well?

As we don't know much about the P.1 life in DBSPD, we have so much question and thank you for your generous help.
I have two question, Do they teach Chinese in Cantonese or Putonghua?Do they have extra curriculum activities afterschool?

Dear Cathy,

No problem. I had been in the same situation last year and all mothers want to prepare well for the new life/environment.

For Chinese lesson, the teach in Cantonese but they also have Putonghua lesson separately.

School has extra activities in both in the morning and after school. But you need to arrange pick up yourself.

There is no swimming lesson in P.E. lesson. Swimming lesson is just the extra activities or for school team training.

So, I think there are about 150 boys in P1?  Which kindergartens did these boys come from?  Which kindergartens have the most childredn entering DBSPD K1?
