what level of books she read? can she reconize the words?
my kid like reading,but he always want me to read for him,how can I train him up to read by himself?

My girl is 4.5 years old and we'll spend about 15 - 30 mins to read every night. She can read the whole book (ladybird level 2, eg, Snow White, Peter Pan, Gingerbread Man & etc) by herself.

That sounds really good. How did you teach your daughter how to read? Is it phonics?
What school is she in?

Myopia...?
No...my girl just got her eye check-up at sanatorium hospital... and the result is Normal

by the way..my girl is reading like : Oxford reading tree - level 10
Ladybird : level 4
all by herself...I never read any story books for her...
very shame for me...rite !!! :cry:

Yes, it's phonics to help. Also, I normally do a competition with her - she reads one book and I read one book - to see who can complete the book first. She'll read out one page and then my turn to read one page in my book. She likes this game.

My kids are 9 and almost 11.

They both like to read, probably spend at least 45 minutes a day reading for pleasure.

They also like to read when they go to bed and so, that might be another 30 minutes or more. DH also has caught the older one reading after "lights out". We are thinking of doing a new thing w/ the older one and let her read as late as she wants on Friday nights.

I only told them to read one book each night. My son 6.5 years old and he is now reading ladybird level 4. He need to read it out lound and need to understand each word to meet my standard (complete understanding). When the first time he read, he is not too good on it, so he need to read it in the next day until he can pronounce it good.

My girl is 4, I just let her to start read ladybird level 1. And she did very good and fast. I think she will go to level 2 next week.
In the beginning I wanted her to start from Level 2, but I am afraid to scare her, therefore i bought Level 1. After she feel interest, then I will let her read something harder.

I always buy a box set with few books in it, so I do not have to buy it all the time.

A 4 year old child reads 2 hours everyday?
The next stop should be to the optometry directly.
Besides, a 4 year old should be encouraged to do free play.

Reading is definitely good, but reading for too long might not be.
Reading is generally labeled "good thing" and watching TV is  "bad thing".
Parents might fall into the trap of forcing/letting a child read for too long, since they have the feeling that the more a child reads the better.
However, would you allow your 4 year old child to watch TV for 2 hours? If no, why should he be asked to read for 2 hours?

I usually suggest my children to rest for a while every now and then (eg. every 15-20 min) since reading for too long is not good for their eyes.  I would ask them to stand up and do some stretching.
And usually after around 1 hour at most, I would usually ask them to put away their books and so something else.  May be get a drink or take a bath first. Then if time permits, they can continue with their reading.

May I know which Ladybird your children are reading? As I know, there are 3 kinds of Ladybird:
i) Keywords with Ladybird
ii) Read with Ladybird
iii) Read it yourself
And where do you buy those box set? How many books in each box set? thanks!
