NLai,

How old is your daughter? Gifted courses at UST should be for kids at secondary schools. Courses for primary kids are not for gifted children (no screening). My kid joined the CU math course last summer. The in charge said many kids applied for math courses, so it's not easy to get in. It was in deed an eye-opener for my kid. Starting from the aptitude test, my kid said he never met other kids who could work out logic questions so fast. The whole course (6 half-days) was challenging, full of math and logical games, which my kid had never come across at school. In fact he didn't get measurable and substantial benefit from the 6 days, but it really gave him much exposure to the world of math and logic.

My daughter is 10 years old now, she also interest in Maths world, I may apply this class for her. I agree what you say, it may be a good opportunity for her to know how strong is the rest of world. Do you plan to join this summer again?

NLai,

I really want my boy to join again this year, but as he is growing up (11 years old now), he has a lot of his own idea and is quite reluctant to go because he said:

1. it's too far away
2. it's very time consuming
3. he can't invite his friends to join together

I will try to persuade him, but there is not much time left...

Yes, I agree what you say, my thinking is
1) too far away,
2) too expensive,
I will apply first, and if we dont go, we may lost $180 only, am I stupid? My idea is keep on walking and then you will find your way out.

From a parent's perspective, it's worth trying. Let her try before she refuses to go out when she grows older.

If your girl is good at Math, would you consider 'olympiad math' which has been well-developed in primary section? In fact, all primary schools are invited to join an annual math contest, just ask the teachers, they should know something about that.
