My son is gifted and he has been studying in IS since primary 1. I chose one with strong Chinese so that he can be bilingual.
If your son likes reading books, IS should be a better choice. CherylMum is correct in that it is the teaching and learning approach that we are choosing. Most local schools waste time in drilling, e.g. same type of arithmatics problems * 20 times, same word copying 10 times. Too many unnecessary things to be memorised. IS with less homework means that he can use a lot of spare time for reading. Creativity can be preserved and enhanced in IS. For gifted children in IS, there is no limit on how high he/she can fly.

My 2 daughter is IQ >135, they were in IS since playgroup, they like ask questions, create problems, not friendly(sometimes), in some IS classes only have 20-25 kids with one teacher and one assistance for P1-3, for P4-6, only one teacher, I found that the teacher know my kid problem very well and willing to spend time to work with them even after school time, break time. The teacher work with me closely how to help them fully develope their ability. Not only homework or test! But also singing, speech, drama, performance...
Therefore, I would say IS is the best choice for my gifted child!

如左圖, 個日係草哋無嘢玩, 佢哋係草地玩影子, 呢D 甘原始既game, 一係細路自己唸出嚟, or 學校外国老師教.
我無問佢哋, 因為好累, 2個問題王, 一日到黑問嘢,無時停, 問到我个腦實哂, 好彩學校老師都係ふ班教學,可以有D 時間教吓佢地, 幫手頂吓!

都係架, homeschool education 呢几年係外国勁hit, 試下上网search gifted kid or homeschool, 会有好多發現, 我之前上网買咗本書叫" The California Homeschool Guide" Edited by Karen Taylor, 就有好多新發現, 佢哋会講同教你点同你個gifted homeschooling, 去search 下, 几多得着.
我小朋友返學 IS 都有話悶, even 老師己經好take care 佢入D 叻D 小朋友既group, 都係甘, 唯有安排佢教D 弱D 既friends, 或早D 放佢break, 去玩or 去library 幫手執書.
無計架, 个个gifted 都係甘架, 如果有大志d, 咪push 佢考セ考物 lor, 我就無甘好心机, 開開心心同佢有个快樂既童年回忔, 咪大咗剩係記得呀媽日日同佢上补習.
佢哋甘叻, 大咗自己搞, 我哋D 平凡人吾識甘多啦!

Last year, my son's class teacher commented that my son answered all the questions (shouted out the answers in class) and didn't give chance to other students who got the answers slower than him. My son's aim was to ask the teachers to go on, don't waste time and teach something more difficult. Of course, it will create problems for the teachers. But, she said my son should learn how to accommodate others who are not as gifted. So, this may be a point for parents of gifted child to consider.

Another case: I know a couple (both phDs) who has a gifted kid and the psychologist referred by ESF commented that the kid can advance to a much higher class. The couple only chose to advance 1 level. The mother is obviously once a gifted child. When I asked her why, she said "Childhood is the most important memory of a kid. A kid should play with others of similar age. If my kid advances to a much higher class, he will soon go to U. There's not much to be remembered for his childhood period!"
This comment can also be referenced by other parents of gifted child.

Another tactic to gifted child is to broaden, explore and develop his other talents and skills, e.g. learning 2 musical instruments, 2 to 3 sports, drawing, etc.. I found that most gifted children are multi-talented. The boy in DBS who can play very good piano is very good in Math too. This strategy is also told by my boy's psychologist.

Yes, my daughter school request they at least have one sport and one music instrument. But most of them have 2-3 sports, like swimming, football,netball, takwando, gym. in advance level(learn since young age). For music, they will do singing, Violine, piano. Let them try multi activities, they will enjoy it! (only me feel hard, have to bring them to different area, daddy $ feel :(....), if family financial is comfortable, they can go as much as they can.
But one thing is important make sure they can follow school work and health is strong enough to manage it. like sleep well....

我仔仔係五歲做test, 但個專家report 話佢唔適合讀國際學校.....
