My girl is two years old and I am considering K1 options for her. Other than the CCKG and St. Cat, are there other kindergartens that are favorable for DGJS admission? What does DGJS look for other than English proficiency?

I would considering to enroll her in an international kindergarten (e.g. ESF/ICS). Does that mean she would be at a disadvantage when applying P1 at DGJS if she speaks very good English but perhaps not as prepared academically since she has not gone through the academic rigor from places like St. Cat or Kentville?

I suggest you apply a internation kindergarten for pre-nersury and St. Catherine for K1. It's benefit for the interview of CCKG.

It seems that what I have been hearing is that St. Cat for K1 then CCKG for K2 and K3 is the best path. Is it the "only path"? Does DGJS take in girls who have gone through other international kindergartens till K3 (100% English, run by native english teachers, more americanized curriculum -- more play, more interactions, but less academic rigor)?

If my daugther can speak fluent English (which she does right now at age 2 -- she speaks full sentences fluently in english all the time) and she continues in an English only kindergarten. Will she have a good chance for DGJS? Will she at a disadvantage if she has not gone through the academic "rigor" at places like Kentville? (e.g. dictation at age 4, etc)?

I think English ability is not the only consideration for the p.1 admission of DGJS, since the prinicpal will not test the girl's English during the interview. I think girls who like to read, attentive are more important.

that's true.... kindergartens like CCKG & St. catherine do not have high standards in Chinese. My girl studied in CCKG before, i brought her to study chinese course outside so that both her Eng & Chi standards r good enough to enter DGJS.. of course, taking interview courses r important as well

where did ur kid studied in Nursery class or K1 before entering CCKG?
Can you also share how to train up the fluency of English of ur kid?

My girl is admitted to DGJS and is now studying at St. Catherine's. In my eyes, St. Cat's Chinese standard is good and it gives sufficient Chinese language training. Having said that, please bear in mind, I am not the pushy type. The only outside help I am giving my girl is reading Chinese books with her.

I don't think DGJS' principal tested the interviewees' English or Chinese language skills. Reading, concentration and presentation skills (in Chinese) and school report are more important.

Does anybody know how many CCKG students have been admitted this year?

Hi Happymichelle, my girl went to M academy for Interview course. the training was good in building up her confidence & fluency in language. indeed, she is taking their english course now which is very popular in DGJS...

so is st. cat followed by CCKG the only path in? so what about nursery which is appropriate for entering st. cat? if cant get into CCKG, will st. cat get her in too? and if cant get into st. cat? any other kindis? what about victoria or cannan?

The Headmistress of DGJS always says in public that P1 interview classes are useless.

If you're really an old girl, how come your kids need to attend commercial interview classes ?

you could be right. both Mrs Dai & Mrs Lau don't recommend people taking interview courses.

to be frank, it's really competitive in getting into DGJS. i think many students did prepare a lot for the interviews.

i spent a lot of time to teach my girl too. however, the interview is only 5 minutes and that's her destiny. so it's very important to us. i think it'll be problematic if she joined some commercial interview courses, because it's about memorizing model answers. but what she has learnt was etiquette, how to answer a question, how to manage surprises etc. i can say that's not what i can teach at home.

May you please elaborate more in details why you think interview classes are important, how can they prepare a child to reveal her personalities and niche in just 5 minutes interview with Mrs Dai?

Be careful of M-Academy.
I let my kid tried but found no use at all.
Share same thought w/ other BK parents that M-academy pretend BK Moms or Dads to post on web as free adverstsment.

BE CAREFUL OF ACADEMY

I believe this center is operated by a lady & a guy ( I believe they are partners) with a so called girl as an admin. assistant. Their minds only focus on $$$$$$ not benefit of your kids.

The true story is :
I recommended my friend to take her son for a English courses there since May. So the boy was there for English courses unitl early September. In August, the lady contacted my friend said due to the admin. workload, the lady requested my friend to pay the monthly fee in advance like Sept fee needs to pay before August 15. My friend was shocked and couldn't believe this request and bargain with this lady and paid at the first day of each month. Suddenly, the lady called my friend and said she is no longer have any time for her son. Of course, my friend asked her the reason but the lady just kept giving execues like no time, no room and whatever. My friend understood the reason because the center was full occupied by thoses interview classes, so the lady just didn't have time to teach her son any longer. My friend was very upset with this lady of her irresponsible attitude and swear she won't go back there again.

If I were you.. please think twice before choosing a right center for your kids before having any unhappy expereince like my friend. Acutually I feel very sorry to my friend becasue I recommeded this center throught BK, too!
