I can feel a bit of bias against the school

For the campus, I think it is already very spacious when compared with other kinders

I do have relatives studying there, they never mention any 送禮文化

My niece now studying in K2 now is pretty good at mandarin. I think even the school is good at teaching mandarin, the performance of the students could still vary.

And I want to say there is nothing to do with tradtional school and 奧數
Personally, I studied in traditional school and got distinctions (A) in both Physics and Maths in both HKCEE and HKAL, I can actually share with you to be good at Maths or Physics, you will need a lot of 背誦 as well

Anyway, I am not critizing you.
Anyone could be bias, for me, I am bias towards the school

I only beleive on FACTS
Their secondary allocation is really good statistically

I am a graduate from KCC primary section over 20 years ago.

I was surprised to read your message because most of the points you described are totally same as the time I was there, e.g. PTH teahers pronounciation are not standard, primary school section is duck feeding.... schools teachers has been serving so long....I am surprised at their
maintaining no change.

Personally, my memory on my primary life in this school is quite painful.
Though some of my classmates studied quite well. I think if your kids are obedient, this school is not bad; but if your kids are quite different from others , you might need to think further. But this is my only personal experience. 不喜勿插

Sorry, as a mum who has a kid studying in KCS KG, I am not going to defend your comments as each person has the freedom to express their view or personal feeling......below is jus the fact, not view because view is subjective:

My 2 sister-in-laws were alumni of KCS KG and KCS primary school over 20 years ago, one went to study in St Paul Co-ed, one studied in True Light after KCS primary.  Both of them have excellent achievement in their career now.  I trust KCS primary might not be too bad in the old time also in giving them a good foundation : )

My sister-in-law still sent her kid to KCS KG and now studying in KCS primary.  Never heard from her she has 送禮 or 送禮文化 is strong in KCS too.  My kid is now in K1 since KCS PN, I have never given any gift to the teachers and the teachers still love my kid and treat her the same as other children.

Come on, here is HK, not HK in the old day, we have the ICAC.......

Sorry, I just randomly press the 回覆 button, I don't mean you talk about 送礼文化 : )

As spoken before, I don't want to write something subjective here.  But since I feel sorry for the teachers after reading the thread .  Pls forgive me to write something a bit subjective now.........(as it seems to me there are some hinted implication on the teachers,  sorry if I have mis-intrepreted your implications)

Point 6:  Many teachers in KCS are very mature and they worked in KCS for many years.  I DON'T FIND ANY PROBLEM WITH MATURE TEACHER AS LONG AS SHE IS LOVING, CARING AND HAVE THE ADEQUATE KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED FOR THE JOB AS A KG TEACHER. I WILL BE PLEASED TO SEE AN ORGANISATION WITH LOW TURNOVER RATHER THAN HIGH TURNOVER.  A MATURE TEACHER, IF SHE IS LOOKING FOR IMPROVEMENT, IT WILL BE A GREAT ASSET AS SHE HAS LOTS OF EXPERIENCE ACCUMULATED FROM THE PAST.

Point 7:  I have seen one KG class teacher who could not response to a foreign parent because she doesn't know how to explain in english.  IF YOU EMPLOY ME TO TEACH CHINESE, WHAT'S THE FAULT IF I CANNOT SPEAK ENGLISH OR OTHER LANGUAGE?  IN KCS KG, ENGLISH IS TAUGHT BY THE NET (native english speakers), NOT BY THE CHINESE TEACHERS.

Sorb, you are really the super fans of KCS......

I think it is ok to show our appreciation by sending some small gift to the teachers.  And of course nobody will maltreat your kids if you don't send.  As what you said it is not an old day.

My son is studying in KCS N1 class now and here is my view. I think it's all depends on what you are looking for and to which kindergarten we are comparing to. To make it fair :

RE懶音, many HK people also got 懶音when speaking cantonese too, can we make sure all cantonese teacher in other kindergarten got no 懶音 ?

RE 送禮文化, this very depends on how positive or negative you are when you see some parents gift the teacher. Do you think chrictmas card is送禮? I think this is no, but when you see I give an envelope to teacher, you may negatively think  there is Money inside ?

RE the central parking area, yes there are polluted air from school bus before 9am and after school. But if you compare to some kindergartens located by road / street, polluted air from normal traffic will be non-stop pass -into the classroom through open window whole day. But in KCS, other them before & after school, ther will be definitely clean air throughout the school.

Yes this is a very traditonal school and have certain expectation on kid's academic performance. I think it is understandable, as you can see most kids from P6 can be allocated to quite good secondary school. If you hope the teachers allow students eat, chat and play when the teacher is teaching in the class even in primary school, KCS is not the one you should go. But for small kids like N1 class, the teacher are more relaxing for kids and I can see they still allow the kids to walk or stand up during the class.

I heard this "送禮文化" few months ago from my neighbour and she moved out already.  Her daughter was studying in KCS in the past and is now transferring to SPK.  She told me that your daughter would receive more attention if you 送禮 to the teachers and that was very common in KCS.   At that time, I was shocked and I didn't believe it.  Now, other people also talk about this, may be it is true??!

I think 112200 has quoted a very good example.

Can somebody quote what 禮 you guys are talking about? Not hearsay..... as a mum who has a kid studying in this school, I really don't have this experience and the teachers have never hinted me about this. If yes, I think I will quit this school already, as it is very important to let our kids grow up in a righteous environment.

I will not treat students distributing small gift to other students and teachers of the class during special events, like X'mas party or birthday party, as  "送禮文化". I think the parents just want to teach their child what Santa Clause will do and what is sharing, not to bribe the teachers.

One point I would like to highlight, totally my personal experience.  When I used the washroom, the lady workers were very rude to me and I saw them talking in a rude way to a child there.

I think the messages left here is getting funny. Just pick a "corner" from KCS to comment , and even pick the "washroom lady" to criticise. For those parents got KCS's offer on hand but thinking  whether let your kids to study there, I suggest you to experience the school by yourself . The best time is after 9:15am when all kids are inside the classroom, you can go to look from the classroom door window ( Ground Floor for N1 and K1), you can see how their teachers lead them to washroom, and there is an indoor playground on ground floor too . kids will have 15-20 min play time there everyday .   Please remember, some people will share true info from their heart, but some people may spread out " negative comment" purposely---Remeber the seat you give up may benefit others on waiting list. Let's go & trust your own experience . If you did that and at the end you prefer other school, then at least you give up the offer without regret ! ( when you go there the guard may ask you the reason to go in, you can just say you want to go to the scholl check something, then he will let you in)

Thank you so much to Petit-Prince to raise out this topic.  Being a mother, her son/daughter is going to study in KC K1 or P1, it's really a good sharing for us to consider KC.  Also, agreed to 112200 saying that "Let's go & trust your own experience ."  Each school has its negative & positive comments. Anyway, my daughter is studying in KC N1 now and everything is good and I will let her continuously to study in KC.  (haha...if no offer by SPK)

I am thinking whether to send my kid to 蘇浙 as well.
But my concern is not in the toilet!:)
I am thinking whether mandarin/English suit my kid or not.  Since there is a mama in other 蘇浙 topic saying that her girl is not doing good in mandarine, and thus don't want to go to school.

Own experience to share:

-  My kid did not have exposure to English before 1.5 years old.  By the time my Indonesian helper quited the job when whe was 1.5 yeas old, I had a Philipino helper instead, my kid can speak simple English now.
- My kid did not have exposure to Mandarine before 2.5 years old.  I sent her to KCS PN, now, in K1, she can speak simple Mandarine now (no help from home at all on Mandarine).

Her speaking Cantonese is also up to standard. My girl is not a smart one, I will say "below average" tim : )

To me, if you don't give your kid the exposure, how will you know if your kid can manage it or not.  Kid's ability is sometimes beyond our imagination.  Try first, and then change if you really find Mandarine is a big obstacle to her learning.

2 Golden rules from this thread : )
"Let's go & trust your own experience ."
"Let's go & trust your kid's ability ."
