Just received letter from the kindergarten as below:
* Over 60% of K2 interviewed for Year 1 places have been made an offer or are on a waitlist with, we believe, a good chance of a place becoming available over the coming months.
* In addition, some further children have been offered a second interview later in the year.
* There is a commendable level of success for a newly opened kindergarten where children have attended classes for just five months.
* If parents would like to discuss their own child's situation, an appointment can be made with the Principal.

As a WKS K2 parents, i would like to share my opinion and experience as below
* Study in ESF kindergarten must secure a place for interview at RC and DC. (based on Sept 2009 figure only). Please noted that there are increased number of K2 ESF applicants now. In other word, it is more difficult for other kindergarten student to get a interview chance.
* Study in ESF kindergarten may get a interview at ESF if your child is in Cat 2.
* If you study in ESF kindergarten, don't just depend on the school lesson. The school will not teach English in class. They just use English during class. You should practice your kid's English with your own method.
* The admission standard of ESF, RC and DC has been changed. It is more and more difficult than before. The child is requested to recall the story. They will comment your 4-year-child, who study at least 2 year English international kindergarten, such as immature, use less vacab, poor reception skill, poor communication skill, poor presentation skill, etc. Some sibling who used to communicate in English at Home will fail. Some Cat 1 also fail too.
* Finally, do a good contingency plan if your child cannot get the offer or place in the waiting list, such as apply more international / local school.

Hope it can help those who want to study at ESF group. Happy Lunar New Year.

Agree!  I am also a WKS parent and i have another kid who is now studying in an ESf primary.
I also agree that the requirement is getting higher than what i experienced before.
WKS said "Over 60% of K2 interviewed for Year 1 places have been made an offer or are on a waitlist with".  Even if the figure 60% is true,  we know that only a few could received an offer among those 60%, most of them only being  offered a waitlist place.  Luckily, many of those who are on waitlist of RC received call to offer a place to them few days ago.
WKS also emphasised that we are a new school and this result is already not bad.  They also said in their letter to us "There is a commendable level of success for a newly opened kindergarten where children have attended classes for just five months".  But why the successful rate for a new school should absolutely be lower? Bearing in mind that even though the kids in WKS only studied in WKS for few months before the interview, but most of them did come from famous international kinders.  Their command of english should not be far worse than those from other ESF  kindy.  My elder kid studied in TY ESF before, i find the english standard of WKS kids are not bad in comparsion.
I understand that many parents are not satisfied with the school , not only because of the admission results, but because of many other incidents.  Anyway, i truly wish all WKS parents can find a suitable primary for their kids and wish your kids all success in their future schools, be it ESf or not.

hi, I'm also interested in applying ESF kinder for my kids.  May I know what kind of 'practice' is required when saying "You should practice your kid's English with your own method."?  Does it refer to grammar, written English or what?  Does that mean kids in ESF kinder still need to practice more English by taking English classes outside?

Thanks a lot.

If the ESF kindergarten's training was enough, that all the kindergarten's child could pass the interview. But the fact is not.
I cannot tell you what is the method, because of I don't know.

You think about it, your kid is only in ESF Kinder for 3 hours a day while he has 21 hours at home.  Do you think that 3 hours will be sufficient to train your child to be able to communicate fluently in English? Of course NOT.  You have to realise that ESF Kinder teach IN English and they don't teach English.  I don't think you need to give any training to your kid IF you can provide him with an English environment at home.
