Hello to all the Mummies and Daddies out there. This is my first posting at BK. I would like to ask if anyone knows what the standards of the English and Putonghua languages are at Pooi Kei. I've heard it's quite good but can anyone share their experiences with me. My daughter was unlucky and did not get picked for central allocation and I am wondering if I should pursue in the school or not...Many thanks!

Hi,

English, Science and Maths Lessons - conducted by English. I think the school won't push you to recite many difficult vocab. They expect the student know how to use. In the 1st term of P1, the students use Longman Express 1B. During the summer holiday before P1, they request the students to do the 1A workbook.

Chinese and Putonghua Lessons - conducted by Putonghua. I feel satisfactory.

Thank you, Charity. In your opinion, would you say your child is happy at Pooi Kei? I hear they have lots of homework too. How about the arts and music classes Is there a good balance to the main core subjects?

Yes, she is very happy. Homework is not too much compared with 2 LMCs. No idea on music and arts. It seems that they focus on English, Maths, Chinese and General Studies/Science evenly.

My son is studing in J4 now. Honesty speaking, the standard of Pook Kei is not so high when comparing with those famous private schools. It is because the school style is not pushing on spelling vocabuaries or do a lot of writing.

But I think that the english exposure in school is very good. They will face and hence to use english in most of the subjects. In this way they will practise and digest better the english. It will make a good foundation for them to preparation to secondary school but no need to face so much pressure in memorise the vocabuaries.

Pooi Kei can provide a good english learning environment for children. However, if you find that your child is outstanding in language, Pooi Kei may be not your good choice. She can study the one with higher standard so that she can establish a better foundation of vocabuaries building.

Moreover, I don't think any good system of school adopt in teaching the students in english but just make the exam difficult and rely on parents' hard work.

Thanks for your input, Yanni-ma. Actually, my daughter's English is very good and Pooi Kei is not my first choice. Unfortunately, she was not able to get into the very popular private schools so I need to find a good public school. It seems to me Pooi Kei is a very traditional and structured school, but under the circumstances I don't seem to have many choices.

請問呢個現象係在小學幾多年級出現? 是否所有學科都是這樣? 那麼家長是否需要高度配合??

我小朋友是小一生, 我看見考試及測驗內容均是在課程以內, 但需要學生動腦筋及完全明白才懂回答, 不是直問直答的; 至於其他年級如小二, 三, 四, 我聽說也是一樣, 他們要求學生懂得思考, 我想現在的學校都是差不多的, 家長的配合可能是必然的.

我都同意, 每間學校課程都必須家長配合, 不能單靠學校, 學校是給了既定課長, 家長便要協助小朋友在家中學習, 才可達至水平. 培基的功課量不多不少, 剛剛好, 只要做足功課, 不斷溫習,一定能應付考試. 小女也是小一生, 她讀得好開心, 聽女兒回應, 培基不是一間太死板的學校, 有活動式教學.

你們好，我的孩子就讀K2。
想請問培基的功課量多嗎？（特別指初小）你們的小朋友大約用多少時間完成功課呢？
自行收生２０分，是否也很難抽呢？

相比其他小學, 培基的功課量不算多, 小一每天大約4-6份, 30-45分鐘可以完成。至於自行收生２０分，以09年來說, 大約300人申請培基, 第一輪60人入圍, 其中有30多人是因兄弟姊妹入圍的, 在baby kingdom中得知20分也不一定入選。

曾聽說近年的小一功課要做到晚上九時才做完，聽到都驚。原來一小時內可以完成功課，很不錯呀！你的小朋友係咪讀緊小一呀？

小三更少功課, 有時半個鐘做完...你有好多時間學課外野...佢測驗考試全部都考課外野的 !!!

有些學校的老師就要谷成積，有些就很關愛，都想問下培基的老師係點架？

是活動教學嗎？我小朋友比較活躍、好動，適合嗎？

我的女兒現讀小一.

中文, 英文 - 除了考課本外, 家長也可考慮給予小朋友一些exercise, 以作補充, 我想是否需要補習, 要看家長可付出時間及對小朋友的要求. 考試測驗有很多閱讀理解題, 真的要靠小朋友具閱讀及理解能力.

Maths - 考試內容是課本內的範圍, 只是問法不直接, 需要小朋友明白理解

Science, 聖經 - 也是課本內的範圍

常識 - 大部份考課本內容, 再加2-3題時事.

我聽其他朋友讀兩間呂明才的小一, 考試都有課外題, 我想大家都差不多.

我覺得培基是重視關愛及牧養的, 活動教學模式, 不重視抄寫.

培基小學是大抽獎(因看到你們說20分也未必收)? 還是自行取form遞表的?
另外...培基小學會直升培基書院的嗎? 因我也上了培基書院網頁看看. 但不太明白是否直升上去.

my daughter also study in KV (P.2 now) and i plan her to study in Pooi Kei. for KV students, is it very easy to handle Pooi Kei's homework and study?
