我個朋友女女剛在St. Cat.畢業,佢話St. Cat.鍾意收D讀過活動教學的N班小朋友,佢話當年女女的同學有來自樂基,但無來算劍明,請現時讀緊的家長指教吓,該言論是否屬實?

my kid studied in km now and got the offer from sc this year for k1.  i dont think they will choose based on the school studied..

Really thanks for your reply which may strengthen my choice for KM, as I really worry about it.  BTW, do you think KM is good choice for Nursery when comparing with HKPS, please share.

心急人,

我相信St. Catherine在收生時主要都是睇interview時的表現.

我個仔讀緊KM-N1國際班, 我知道佢班最少有3個人(包括我個仔)St. Catherine收左入K1國際班.

至於KM好定HKPS好, 睇你喜歡你個小朋友在邊種教學環境成長. 大家都知道HKPS是活動教學, 可能同St. Catherine比較似, 我親戚個仔在HKPS讀緊N1國際班, 連阿媽都話個仔返學係玩 (當然都有嘢教), 學校唔太要求家長同仔女溫習. KM好唔同, 非常academic, 一開學已經同家長講每個星期五會派回書本, 及包括一個中文生字, 希望家長在weekend同小朋友溫習, 每星期有一份功課; 另外每學期有學習評估 (等於test), 家長又要同小朋友總溫習, 評估後派成績表. 同時, KM很注重discipline, 小朋友有什麼行為問題一定同家長講, 希望家長配合回家教導小朋友.

我興幸當年HKPS唔收我個仔 (因為當時都未知兩間學校的教學分別)我就喜歡KM, 因為我相信KM出來的學生將來銜接傳統小學一定冇問題.

所以最終是睇你target什麼小學.

我覺得都係睇In時的表現，我個女以前就系讀街坊學前班各，她的同學中，有些不讀學前班的都有。

Thank you very much for all of your advice.  I hope my son will have happy school life at KM in the coming September, 2010.  BTW, can you PM me what does the St. Catherine's interview questions and what languages did your son speak.
As my son usually speak in English even though you ask him in Cantonese.  I am now training him to speak more Cantonese, please advise.

I don't agree, my sons studied in normal school N1, but St. Cathereine and KV are offered for him, I think is based on Kid's performace

For Anglo-Chinese class, 2 parts will be included:-
1) Toys playing: a group of kids were asked to sit around a table to play some toys (seemed to be LEGO) and a teacher was standing beside them to give marks. The teacher might interupt by asking some questions (in Eng.) to individual kid (e.g. what's the object / what's the colour) during their play time. It took around 5 mins.
2) Eng. interview: same as most kindergarten did. My kid was asked to name 1-2 object she gave and advise the use of them.

For International class, additional interview in Mandarin would be required which will be same procedure as Eng. interview.

My experience for interview was that whether the kid was able to answer the questions correctly was not that important. (My kid was not able to name the objects correctly in Mandarin) How the kid respond (e.g. in a positive manner / attitude) will be more crucial to success.

Dear Creammom,

Thank you very much for your sharing experience with me. I will choose KM as my son's nursery now.  Does the interviewer is NET for Anglo-Chinese class when requesting for answering in Eng.?  Do you think Int'l class is more difficult to get in ? Pleae advise!

Thanks for your sharing!  I am now decided to send my son to KM for nursery.  Does NET to be the interviewer when requesting English interview?
Do you think International Class is more difficult to get in St. Cat.? Pls. advise.

I think Eng. interview be conducted by NET teacher. St. Cat has quite lots of NET teacher.

If you wish to apply St. Cat, you must check her website the start date of distributing Application Form as only limited amount (of course by first-come-first-serve) will be distributed and parents will be asked to send an envelope to collect the Application Form.

Glad to here that you choose KM. But BTW, I would like to remind you that KM does not guarantee N1 students to go direct to K1. Around 30% will be put on waiting list for K1 and they will interview new K1 students. Only if old N1 students give up the place can be filled by the waiting list.
