I think they do not merely look for smart kids, and those who speaks good English, they also target on very aggressive girls or those who have good physical abilities (that's why they have the PE test during the interview in the 2nd room)
It's not surprising. Look at the video they showed to parents while waiting. They emphasized in all-round abilities and obviously they also enjoy winning different local & int'l competitions: music, sports & swimming, Eng & Mandarin choral speaking, singing contest etc.
My daughter speaks good English but with American accent instead of DGJS' preferred British accent. Got rejected as expected. She's never a proactive girl. According to my friend's daughter, girls had to raise hands & compete against each other to answer the questions. From that moment onwards, I knew we would be "certified"...
We have no medals, no certs, have not enrolled her in any interview classes, yet I'm still happy about our girl. We parents should also all be proud of our children for going through such a series of challenging exercise at the age of 5.
We also have no regrets. DGJS provides a nurturing but competitive environment, I knew when I was watching the video in the hall that it would not suit my girl. She would not be happy. |
