Here is my sharing:
I sent my daughter to SJC for K1 starting this school year.
She was in other kindergarten for N1 before.
I am very happy with this school so far.
The most important thing is my daughter enjoys her school every day.
She tells me she likes the teacher very much and she is very happy in school every day (as I ask her almost every day).
She never refuses to go to school in the morning.
I can see she is much happier in SJC than in the earlier one.
There are reasonable amount of homework (2 assignments every day for now), from numbers, English to Chinese writing and matching.
I believe their training on English language is good enough, as my daughter starts speaking quite a lot of full English sentences in correct grammar and pronunciation at home (given that I mostly communicate with her in Cantonese at home and never send her to any English playgroups).
She has also learnt a lot of new English vocabulary that I never mentioned to her before.
The only weakness I can say is the mandarin language training is not as stronng as their English language training.
Other mandarin tuitions is required if you expect your kids to speak very fluent mandarin.
Students (K1 to K3) are very discipline and helpful as I observed in various school activities.
Students are mostly local (HK) people, with a few foreign (Indian, Korean and German as far as I have seen) and mainland Chinese students.
It is not an international school.
SJC applies traditional teaching methods.
It's an English school so official language is English.
All school notices are in English.
School Interview was conducted in English when my daughter was interviewed for K1 last year (parents are required to fill a quite detailed English questionnaire which was given during the interview).
Major language in school is English except Mandarin and Chinese classes.
But most staffs can communicate in both Chinese and English.
To my surprise, the school is private but not commercial.
There is no excessive party or additional charges so far as compares to many other kindergartens (The previous school asked me for party fees every time when there is a party which occured once or twice a month).
There is hardly any fund raising or donations activity.
The only fund raising activity for the whole year is the elderly respect day where they ask for materials (like clothing, rice, oil, etc...) but not $$$.
Staffs including teachers, cleaning ladies, admin staffs and the principal are all very nice and helpful as I experienced so far.
Teachers are very patient to share with me how my daughter behaves and performs during class whenever I ask.
Admin staffs are also very helpful and patient whenever I have any question.
The school offers half day and whole day classes for K1 (on your own choice), and whole day class for K2 and K3.
My daughter is in the whole day class, she has lunch and afternoon nap in school and finishes school at 3 every day.
Half of the homework is completed with teachers in school every day
(the other half is left for parents by intention).
I hope this sharing can help you to understand the school more.
I see some negative and violent comments on the school admin and principal on this forum before, it sounds very scary but they all seem very irrelevant.
I was also little worried at the beginning so I communicate with the teachers and staffs a lot and I speak to many other SJC K1 to K3 parents. They are all very happy with this kindergarten.
I know nothing about SJC primary school so I can’t give comment.
