How's your son's first few days experience?
My daughter started to know the names of his classmates.
The teachers ask her to bring some favorite toys to class to decorate her locket.
She forgets to bring her water, but dare not to tell the teacher, so she had no water to drink on the day.
She loves going to school so far and still observing!!
Yesterday, she bring a Chinese book home and took out the Mandarin CD to read it at home. Good habit for her independent learning!!

Yes, quite an adjustment for the little ones. My daughter went home on Monday afternoon, right after finishing her homework, she fell into deep sleep until next morning!!
She's really tire!!

my son he is happy with his new school life!!! He keep telling me that no many homework like b4, not like "XXXXX primary school" only me need to adjust...hahahha..I am not use to little homework for him as well...anyway..is good start and hope he will not scare to go to school anymore.!!

My son is in 1A4, really nice to meet you all. Yes, it is difficult to find other parents in this school. Hope more parents can join. My son is happy with the school life too. The only thing so far I don't really satisfy is the school bus service, the get on time is too early and no bus route provided.

Some sharings:
Basically my daughter is not a traditional school type kid, she is not that good at memorizing words at this stage. I afraid that traditional school with frequent dictation or examination will wipe out her learning motivation.
I hope this primary school bascially could build up her good foundation in language (Mandarin and English) and motivation for learning at least...
I saw some of the discussions years ago (not much parents come here for chat recently except two of you, that's so helpful for me), the parents worried about English standard..I am not sure about the english standard here, you can share more...
I saw there is a native english co-class teacher, the kids are able to keep engl. conversation everyday, that is nice as well. but i am not sure about the grammar teaching or others...I still feel like their curriculum is quite traditional..

Hi Vinvin,
that's difficult for a young kid to travel to and from school especially if the school bus is not that good as you expect.
can you talk to the school about that, hope to get some improvement?
we go to school by Dad's car, but I have to get her home afterschool, difficult to get into a mini bus as well after school as too many school children rush out school at that time in Oxford road, that's quite terrible..

I'm also not satisfy with the school bus. It takes more than one hour go back to Ma On Shan! The schedule is 4:00pm arrived, but now every day is 4:15-4:20. But, my son said there is a serious traffic jam in Oxford road every day. Is it?
Have you all see the class photos from the "eclass". I am so happy to see his school life photos.

My son likes the school lunch very much! But, he always bring back the fruit as he is too full.
He always treat the relax time after lunch as the second recess. He requested to bring some board games to school.

Hi all, my son is in 1A5. It is so good to have a forum here to discuss about P1. I cannot find one before as I supposed many students are from Creative kindergarten and maybe their parents continue the discussion there.
After almost two weeks school life, my son likes the school lunch very much, he took two bowl of rice nearly everyday. He didn't mention too much about the lesson but he liked to talk about the school lunch and many other funny things happened in school.
Also, I agreed the bus service is not very stable, the morning bus late everyday while the afternoon bus sometimes early and sometimes late. So I will normally 15 minutes earlier to wait at the stop.
Finally, one question, will you join the PTA? I would like to join the PTA and would like to know if anyone knows anything about PTA

Yes, i think the purpose to have the dictation is to let the kids to build a habit to review what they learn... I was happy that it was not a battle between my son and myself when I asked him to review the words he's been learned... and he was being very good when I was helping him to take the dictation at home.

As far as I understand, they are only requested to dictate the 5 words indicated in the 小小書法家 for every chapter. The timing is 3 days after they finish the exercise in 小小書法家. Hence this week they should dictate 山 雨 花 草 紅.

thanks, I did not realize that. your teacher write in your handbook on that specific words? The first week, they write the 5 words in the handbook, this week, they didn't, so both me and the kid thought that we should have the whole chapter prepared for dictation..

can you "decode" the short form written in the student journal? i'm quite confused when following through each homework with my kid. i doubted if kids could fully understand each short form (e.g. W.S, 明大(二), 大簽改) and be able to explain the terms to their parents. any feedback to share?

Yes, quite a headache in identifying what are the short-forms, my daughter guess and I guess everyday.
I have not seen 明大(二), 大簽改), but WS is usually related to Maths work sheet.

I have joined PTA, no knowing much about it as my daughter is not from the Creative kindergarten.
I agree with you, the forum is not active of this school, we hope more parents will share their resources or questions at this forum.
If you want to know more parents, you can find them every morning at the frontdoor of the school, some of them have regular morning breakfast meetings at Kowloon City market place..I did join them once and they know a lot about this school.
Not much P1 parents, most are P4 & 5 parents.

BTW, anyone knows what '我心(三)' mean? My son draws a heart shape after 我 instead of write the word 心. This is from last Friday handbook but we don't know what that means so we skipped. Yesterday 手冊寫住要補交.

我未見過明大同大簽改，我會跟住科目分，咁樣會容易明白d，同埋有時會cross check埋網上的內聯網，裏面有個課室日誌，果度由老師寫，有時會清楚一點點，不過就好似唔係每樣功課都有，因為阿仔手冊寫旣多過網上老師寫既。
同埋尋曰阿仔手冊好似無note話要串二十個英文生字，會唔會班班做法不同？

岩岩先睇到呢度, 我仔係p5, 可入啓幼果邊或pm我, 希望有野可解答到妳地. ^^
今年多左一班小一, 返放學車都多左好多, 另外又有d怪獸車(停係學校正門, 行晒入學校, 人地響晒on都唔出黎果只, 咪成條牛津道c晒囉), 所以校車都無計, 因為塞住都出唔到個回旋處.
每朝都見有小一家長送返學, 好溫馨, 又同小朋友影相又打招呼, 仲唔捨得走(排操場果幾日等到上樓), 唔知其中一個係咪妳??

Does anyone have any idea should we subscribe to these sites or not? My daughter is so tired after school everyday. I am wondering is she having any energy to use those sites.
I have already paid more than HKD300 for an English learning site the school introduced last week. I don't know how much these extra cost is coming?

Just curious if your kids will finish the lunch box at schools? did they tell you? I would expect my daughter to finish her lunch box (we bring our own lunch, which is not a big size box), but she said that other kids (choose school lunch) did not finish them. I just wonder if the school prepared lunch is of big size and the kids are allowed not to finish the lunch?
Another observation is: starting from this week, I found that the kids in class like to exchange presents: one day, my daughter brought back a new pen, saying that it's from her classmate's present to her; the other day, she brought back a little doll, saying another present from her classmate. She also send out presents to her classmates, such as pen, rulers etc...
I am curious on that: are kids interacting and socializing through sending out or receiving? I told her that she should return all the presents as friends do not need presents to gain friendship...friendship is through caring and support..
It's very interesting, does this happen in your kid's classroom?

關於網上練習, 妳地將會收到好多推介, 學校唔要求一定要跟, 所以我地應該睇下自己個小朋友個別情況去決定. 想當年, 我仔會做每日一篇(唔駛$$), 真係好緊張架, 晚晚點都要做完先訓, 去旅行都要上網, 因有排名; 而其他要收費既, 妳會發覺幾個月後, 可以數出佢做過幾多次, 持之以恆當然係好, 不過唔係幾多個做得到, 如果佢唔駛提又肯自動自覺去做既, 恭喜妳!
食飯方面, 開頭係老師睇, 之後阿仔話有個職位叫"飯長", 佢會提醒妳要食到幾多先准掉, 當然做飯長果個要以身作則先啦, 個個都有機會做架. (而家唔知有無改變呢)
至於送小禮物, 呢個係小朋友自認為既交友方式, 我既個人指導係, 阿仔唔好收亦唔好送, 准備一d小食(最好係獨立包裝), 係第一個小息時同好友分享, 佢地會自動一堆堆玩架, 而大節日時我會准備全班(都係廿幾份而已).
今朝係學校外停車場見到個小一男孩子, 係爹地車返學既, 我已送左我仔入學校, 企係我自己車頭, 佢好大膽問我係度做乜(佢見我唔走), 我就同佢傾左2句, 佢好開心同爹地入學校, 睇到佢諗起我仔小一時既番薯樣, 而家小朋友真係醒好多, 岩晒讀IB學校呢!

First of all, would like to thank Iron for sharing the experience with us!
I was pretty frustrated last night when I saw the notices from school about the extra learning materials. They are from 4 different learning institutes. And by reading these materials, they are basically the same things!! English, Chinese, Math and '常識“。 And they are just from yesterday, I remember i received similar stuff last week too..
I am not quite sure if the school was expecting the parents to buy all the material??? If we did purchase all of them, total sum is over $1500, and this is more than the material fee we paid to the school for this semester.
My thought is the school should select the material carefully before presenting to the parents. Thus, I may consider purchasing one set for my son as this may helpful to him.
It's just a little bit of my thought. Please share your thoughts on this as maybe you have a different perspective to see this issue, and it may help me to review my thought to this again.

We order the lunch in school for my son. According to him, he loves the food that school prepares for them. That's good, as I don't need to worry about the lunch for him.
He did mention that the teacher said if they are really full, no need to finish all of them. And i shared this with one of the parents that our kids were in the same kindergarten. And her opinion makes sense to me. She thinks the school provides the set lunch for the kids for all ages (from p1-6), so the portion should be the same, if you are a kid in P1, of course it is difficult to finish a big portion.
And this is just my case, as you prepare lunch for your daughter. Does she get very hungry after the school? Is she a big eater? Do you prepare a big portion of the snacks for her to the school?or maybe you can consider to order the lunch in school for her to try..
We are the mother always worried too much!! i have a little bit similar situation just like you. My son wakes up at 6:00, and basically he's not totally wake up at that time... so he barely can eat anything before gets on the school bus.. and everyday i ask him if he's hungry for the first couple hours in the morning, looks like it doesn't bother him... but as a mom, i feel terrible....

thanks sophia.. I agree that the school should screen before sending out all to the parents, that sounds not very "professional".
my elderson at other school used to do the 每日一篇, that's very good one for training up his Chinese knowledge and its good for boys as they are eager to participate in the competitions, not sure if this work for my girl now, will try...

Dear all,
It's a relief to find you parents here coz I realize that I am not the only one who is being frustrated for the same matters.
My girls is in 1A2 and let me share some of her school life.
She did not bring any gift home or send out any gift at school. Guess kids have different ways in socializing with their peers.
My girl has the ordered school lunch at school and she finishes her meal almost everyday. She is a big eater and she said she can have refill of rice or noodle only once each meal and she does it everyday. But she brings home an orange or an apple sometimes when she cannot finish it at lunch.
She have joined the table tennis group on Wednesday after school and the first practice seemed fun.
I totally agreed that the school should introduce additional teaching resources to parent in a more organized and professional manner. I don't mind to pay some extra dollar for additional resources but the school has to let us know how much are they going to introduce altogether at least.
Maybe we should find some way to let the school know about our concerns. Hope we can find out more on tomorrow's seminar.

我同大家一樣已經俾咗$336參加英文課程, 另外, 又訂咗英文報紙, 打算俾呀女有個好習慣睇多D英文. 剛剛派個D網上課程. 我個女實在冇咁多時間去玩/學. 每日放學後, 洗澡, 做功課, 温習, 有時睇下故事書已經用哂佢D時間. 八點半上床. 現有學校個eclass web site呀女都冇咩時間入去. 所以我都唔打算參加住. 遅D如果真係有時間, 到時再報.
食飯方面, 湘頤每日都可以食哂學校準備D食物(水果除外).不過每日返到屋企, 佢都好似好肚餓咁 :D

About Chinese dictation, I got a notice before which said that three days after the kids did their 小小書法家, there will be a dictation on those five words.
The notice said that in the future, the teacher will not remind the students every time before dictatio. Last week, my girl wrote a reminder down on her handbook before the dictation. It was in the middle of the week.I guess the Chinese dictation day is not fixed.

Yes, it's good to have a reading habbit. Sometimes, my son will wake up early on Sat/Sun to read books. But, I prepfer him to sleep more now.
My son said usually so many students in the library. Not easy for him to borrow a book.

Vivien said 樂希 got ten gold stars from Miss Kwok for answering questions correctly. Vivien got six and she is really excited.
How is 樂希 reacting on the raz-kids website? Vivien said Mr. King showed them the website on Tuesday in class and Vivien went on play with the site these two days with so much excitement. They earns points after reading and recording the text and can use those points to buy aliens or other stuffs. It's fun.
Did you join the parents night last Friday? The program is so overrun that there is no time for parents to exchange views. But the information the teachers shared on last Friday is really useful.
Are you joining the parent-student fun day this coming Sunday afternoon? I am going to be there and hope to meet you in school.

係呀! 樂希終於集齊十粒幸運星. 他很開心! 他說好像學期尾會有獎, 不知道?!
關於Raz-kids, 上堂前他已經開始玩, 接著頭幾天他真的極之投入!連早上僅有的十分鐘時間也不放過. 現在慢慢適應了, 他仍然很喜歡, 但不致於那麼瘋狂, 哈哈!總括來說, 我覺得這個閱讀計畫很好. 讓小朋友多閱讀, 又能自發學習.
我上星期五也有出席, 但沒有時間和你相應. 星期日有小朋友在, 我們就容易相應啦! 到時見!
另外, 又有新相啦! 老師們真努力!
