Then what's the point of taking IB? Why don't I only take SAT if I target US universities?

明白要考SAT, 但其實會報美國大學都會一早考了。而我相信lB平均40+嘅尖子考SAT亦唔會差。所以我才不明白固中原因。。。

I think they need to complete the IB or DSE in order to graduate from secondary schools.....

US universities do not only look at SAT.  Unlike UK and HK universities that mainly focus on exam results, US universities are more concern with a student as a whole.  They will look at the last four years' results at school AND other activities.  Therefore they will make unconditional offers to students irrespective of the final exam scores.  Should there be a significant difference between the predicted grades and final scores, they will ask the reasons but this should not affect the unconditional offers already made.

A counsellor said some US universities no longer require SAT.  For popular universities that receive huge number of applications every year, SAT results would be the initial screening tool.

I am not sure if I am understanding your question correctly... SAT is just an aptitude test that test your math, eng reading and writing only, not a program / curriculum.  Mainly for screening purpose by US colleges.

I think Bobby is refer to SATII which is a subject text at high school level. AP is a course/exam at yr 1 U level teach in high school which I think is more or less eqivalent ro GCE A and IB HL.

Bobby has raise a question that I always want to have answer.

For competent students, they usually take SAT I plus 3 to 4 SAT II subjects.
Further for competent studnets, they usually take 5 to 9 AP subject tests in total although they would take one or two in Grade 10 and Grade 11 respectively and 4 to 5 at Grade 12.

For the local universities, they regard SAT tests as college entrances examination (unless you also submit the AP results).

For UK colleges, they would rely solely on AP results.

For US, they only need SAT (1 and II) but they would take AP results into consideration along with other factors as outlined by Annie123.

All current IB students joint Logos since their primary.  according to the link below, the coming IB seats seems open to outsiders.

Shootastar,
Thanks!  So does it mean that if one is to apply to US colleges, he should at least take SAT I together with 3 to 4 SAT II subjects on top IB?

美國名牌大學4年最少200萬,英國三年少於100萬,這可能也是原因之一
而且IBDP成績好不等於SAT成績好,SAT要求英文好,IB要懂得應試技巧

IB is an equivalent to AP (in-school curriculum), which is not able to replace standardized testing (SAT or ACT)

Most competitive colleges would need at least SAT 1 and 2 to 3 SAT II subject tests. Since the applicants are required to submit at most 3 subjects, some take take 4 SAT subject tests and submit the best 3 scores. However, 3 subject tests will do.

Basically, most competitive US colleges would require SAT reasoning test and 2 to 3 SAT II subject tests. If you have IB results, it will enable them to look at you from another angle. However, IB score could not replace SAT scores [I mean most competitive US colleges, not community colleges.)
The IB score of 6 or 7 may exempt you from the basic course offered in Year I.
Depending on the colleges, you may have senior standing if you have full IB Diploma with good results. That means you may graduate one or half year earlier instead of 4 years.
