Re: Kentville to SFA
Ichun,
Maybe I just share some experiences that I can think of from the top of my head:
1) At the beginning of your child's school life at SFA, you'll find that the timetable is quite confusing & there is quite a lot of homework. Don't be panic; actually there is also lots of homework in other schools, not just SFA. You & your child will get used to it after 1-2 months time.
2) English and Maths subjects are taught quicker than some other schools, but don't ever give your kid a feeling that the syllabus is difficult, instead, you can tell your kid that what he learns from school is challenging & interesting. Children's feeling are very much influenced by people surrounding, especially their parents. Show your 'interest' & 'involvement' in his school work, his classmates and his other activities at school and hint him that you 'envy' him for studying in such a good school, have so many good friends and is learning so much more that you when you're young. Even though this might not be true, but it works for me. : :
3) There are English & Chinese dictations every week - but Kentville's kids are generally used to dictations already, so that's not a problem! There are quite a number of assessments throughout the year, but no marks are counted, and I think this is actually a good way for the children to practice on what they have learned constantly, so that they won't feel too stressful when it comes to the real exams, after they have done so many revisions.
4) Please visit the topic "九月入讀 聖方濟各小學 家長聚會" (I think you have...). There are some useful comments from other mummy whose children are SFA students.
Hope your kid will love SFA.
