My nephew suddenly doesn't like to do homework after he jumped to primary 3. Instead of scolding him, my sister-in-law tried to understand why. After a bit of struggle, he voiced out that his new teacher-in-charge is too fierced to him and picked on his mistake.
There may be a lot of reason why kids don't do homework, other than being lazy. We will never know the reason if we don't try to dig out. Sometimes we are the "reason". And even if they are lazy, in their eyes they may not think they are lazy because they don't have the concept of hardworking, or they don't realize their role, etc.
In the Proverbs of the Bible, it says even the ants are hard-working to find food and take care of themselves. I told this to my daughter and challenged her whether she is smarter than ants. (of course the answer is positive). Then she suddenly became more hard-working in completing her homework. it is because there is an incentive for her to prove that she is better than an ant.
