Dear Mommys,

If you were me, which one you will choose.

Anfield - small class 1:10, has Mandarin lesson half hour a day, new school but didn't know how many pupils can enter ESF Primary school.

Starters - common class 1:20, Pure English, old school & about 70% can enter ESF Primary School.

Dear CherylMum,

You are right.  Whether they can enter ESF primary depends very much on their English capability.

But I don't know which one can provide a good environment to learn English.

From my point of view, small class of Anfield has more chance to talk with the teachers & learn from them.

Starters has a high percentage to enter ESF Primary Schools.  It means that the children also have a good environment.

I won't choose the kindergarden that is closer to my home.   They are too bad.

Hi TszYuMaMa,

I think what CherylMum means is you should consider the travelling time required. Is Starters closer or Anfield, if you've decided to choose between these two?  The class size of Anfield is 20 with 2 teachers.  Starters have one classteacher plus one or two assistant teachers (according to their website).  Anfield is much more expensive.  The tuition is fee $5,000+ $300 for snacks per month.  Application costs $800.  Starters costs $2750+$300 per month.  Registration costs $400.

Hi Sandrine,

The travelling time are the same between my home & both schools.  

I was so confused that the class size.  According to your comments, the class size are similar or the same.  Anyway, I just want to have a good environment  one.

Both registration fees I had paid. The next step is to pay the deposits.  I don't want to spent more money if I can't make a decision before December.

Any good or bad comment about Anfield and Starters, please advise.

I see.  Well I don't have firsthand info about the schools but I've seen some good comments about both schools.  You may search more comments by using the search engine at the top of the page typing the keyword "Anfield" or "Starters".  I've appended below the links:

My friend's daughter attended Anfield a few years ago.  She spoke highly of the school.  She said the class size was small, the teachers were nice, there were lots of different activities and the outdoor playgrounds were a plus.  They used the Letterland approach to teach phonics.  Her daughter joined the playgroup there and continued till K2 when she was admitted to P1 of an international school.  She said her daughter can speak English, Putonghua fluently and she lets her take additional Putonghua lessons after school.  I personally don't know anyone who has attended Starters.

My daughter is now studying in Anfield K1, 24 children with 3 native speaking teachers.  
More than half of the class are english-speaking children, & no cantonese in class, so children can easily pick up english.  
Class start at 8:30am, if you live far away, you should take it in consideration.  You have to wake your sweetie up and feed her breakfast.  They serve snack around 10am.

My daughter just enrolled starters school this September in K1, not more than 1 month, quitted it already.

Before you applied which school, I think we should go to visit and check the lesson what they do in the classroom.  Don't just walk around the environment of the school.

I really disappointed in this school

我想問下, 如果一個小朋友, 無返學10日, 會唔會連班主任都唔打電話比家長呀??  Starters 就一個電話都唔問家長, 你話幾有愛心對d 小朋友....

環境如何, 家長入學前已經知道, 但老師如何教小朋友, 老師既表現, 真係要去到上學才知道, 十分之失望, 老師態度同表現, 並不專業, 亦不投入, 而唔明白校長為何會請一個完全無經驗而又剛畢業既老師, 完全處理唔到小朋友

老師連基本應該要教小朋友既野都唔教, 連去完厠所洗手都無, 玩完拾好玩具又無, 一幅圖畫都未畫過, 總之....

無論幾好口啤都好, 一定要去係學校上課時, 走入去check下, 究竟間學校教咩, 同學校既表現.... 好緊要...

My boy has been going to Starters for 1-1/2 yrs.  He is attending K2 now.  So far, I'm happy with his progress.  His English is very fluent and he only speaks English at school with his peer.  The boys and girls have discipline in the classes.  Although they're not given daily homework, they have to bring their favourite things to school for 'show and tell' weekly.  Later on, they have to follow the reading scheme with flash cards at home every day.  They're tested at school on their reading.  They are all trained to share things, be polite, and be out spoken.  

I also send my boy to mandarin classes outside school to make sure he catches up to the basic Chinese standard of the same age.  Going to extra Chinese class is always inexpensive.
