In fact, the syllabus for P.1 is really easy. So, I don't think it is necessary for pupils to go to tutorial classes. You'll find that they really learn a lot at school even though they don't have much homework. Let them enjoy their wonderful primary life with a variety of activities. Don't worry and don't be frightened by those tutorial classes.
In order to do well in P.1, what you need to do is to do comprehensions in both English and Chinese daily with your kid.
I hired a girl to do two three comprehensions with her daily (1 hour). She is now performing well in primary. Another thing you need to do is to read books with her.
Once you have done these starting from K3, your child will have a very good foundation and she can tackle the tests and exam easily instead of going to tutorial.
When you are in P.1, you can send her to some class once a week to boost up the testing technique.
