ESF.
But are you sure? They basically do not choose students (other than making sure that the students can communicate in English, which is not exactly that hard). The admission is based on priority given to students with siblings in the school, and those that attend ESF kindergarten. They do not choose students according to their ability. I know very smart and bright children that fail to even get an interview (who eventually got into an even better international school), and some very ordinary students (some have poor English standard) just because a sibling is already there....
With this type of way of choosing students, the quality cannot be guaranteed. There are students that are extremely poor in many aspects, together with students that are very good within the same class. Of course, the students with low standard would not complain, but students with high standard would be pulled back by the low standard of most other students.
There are other schools, like HKIS, GSIS, that choose the best amongst the best. The students are mostly bright, but of course your child need to be bright too and you need to pay higher fees.
Like the good Chinese saying, "there is no such big frogs jumping around the street". I always suggest people to think twice before accepting offer from ESF.

Although name is NOT Int'l school, I think this school is a good choice for those with budget, and also one who wants choice of language other than English.

VERY competitive to get in.

This year, Grade 1..... over 2000 applicants, after first round, 400 was left. Then they choose..... about 120.

VERY affordable.

Yes fees are very affordable but as far as I remember they do not have a secondary school.  Though there is one (dont remember the name) sort of related PLK secondary school that offers French as a second language.

How about PLK Choi Kai Yau?  If Cara's saying is correct, then these 2 on the opposite are choosing so called 'good students'.

I wont argue about ESF Primary standard, but I know its secondary school standard (SC that is) is no crap.

Every child is talented with something and dont think we need to be ahead of everyone at the start.  From what I observed so far, ESF is very successful in training its little ones to be good readers which is a life long skill, i wld say.

----- Funny you put it this way. "It is no crap."...? Well, I am glad you were happy with the school. What is most important is that parents and students are happy. Not everyone can fit in a more challenging or more competitive place.

----- Good that there is ESF in Hong Kong. Otherwise, I wonder where those students can go. Glad so many parents like it. It just proves why the standard of ESF remains the lowests amongst other international schools.

Mighty,
The way you put it, you do not seem to be handling what I wrote.
So anyone posting negative comments of ESF has to be someone who was rejected?
What kind of logic?
You people really do not want to face the facts don't you.
Never mind.
You have probably 20+ ESF parents here. No one would be able to get away.
OK, I lose. You all win.

Hi Cara
Pls relax.  If someone told you that Hong Kong is the worst city in Asia, then as a Hongkonger I am sure you wl ask why and what has happened to that person that made him say that.  And when facts are given, one can judge whether the comments are justified or not.  You said I do not want to face the facts, but you didnt list out any facts.  By the way, I dont want to win over anything.  This is a platform for discussion and not competition.  I m sure other ESF parents too are opened for discussion too.

As an ESF parent, i like hearing +ve and -ve comments on ESF from either ESF or non-ESF parents, as long as they are true.

HKIS & GSIS

As an active HKIS alumnae, I could tell you that:
HKIS does not necessarily chose the smartest students first.
HKIS first priority are given to kids who cannot attend local schools.
GSIS will opt for the smarter ones.
HKIS will take the all rounders, & extroverts.

win or lose??

I agreed! It is a platform where people can share & discuss peacefully.

Why we put our little one to int'l schools instead of local ones?? I believe, one of the reasons is, we don't want our kids to be exhausted in battles of comparison.

It is deeply rooted that schools, teachers, parents & students in local stream are keen on comparing school ranking, exam results...then kids are being pushed pushed pushed to be 'test & exams machines', It is found in kindergartens too...no joy but stress...

For those int'l schools parents, we treasure our kids who can enjoy their school life, have more chance of brain storming, creative thinking, being open-minded & have much more resources to build up their talents.

If u agree the above mentioned, as a parent, we do let our kids have the same positive value of mind. Treasure & enjoy their lives, appreciate of their improvements instead of comparing to others. The only one u should compare with, is YOURSELF.
