今天剛剛收到Scholastic Book List，recommended book list有September ~ Seesaw及September ~ Teacher Picks，是否所有推介的書都要訂﹖

如果這是9月份的書，那麼是否每隔一些時候都有一些推介書﹖這些書是否都是課外閱讀的書﹖

Buying or not is purely your own choice. There will not be any homework related to these books. Scholastic HK usually has 3-4 rounds of discounted book sales each year. The school just helps the parents to group and place the orders.

Last year we just received the catalog and order form. I think this year the English department is kind enough to recommend some books which may be interested to our kids.

From the list, Black Lagoon and Captain Underpants are my son's favorites.

我相信學校建議的是一個參考..因有時睇catalogue 真係唔知好唔好..

買scholastic book 是可以自由決定的, 最緊要小朋友喜歡..

有些書未必可以在書局找到, 有些十分優惠, 有些會比書局貴..當然我相信很多都可以在學校圖書館找到..

如我冇記錯, 我地買書, 學校就會獲增書的..所以為學校圖書館加多d書及選擇也是我支持scholastic book 的其中一個原因..

當然不會全部買下，通常我只會買那些折扣較多和有趣的書，正常來說 Box-set 折扣較多。我不太清楚學校圖書館的英文藏書，因小兒只是不停借閱「尋寶記」系列，部分書 (e.g. Magic Tree House, Geronimo Stilton, Captain Underpants) 可以在公眾圖書館借閱，但書本普遍較殘。
如果你認識其他家長，交換來看當然會節省不少金錢和空間。

Thank you everyone for your replies. My daughter loves reading a lot, but I stopped buying books as there is just not enough space for all the books. So we borrow some books from the library each week. I found that the books from the mobile library are quite new, but of course the selection is not very big.

You can download the catalog from Scholastic website. G1 should be SeeSaw and Teachers' Picks. But you may need to ask other G1 parents for the order form and the recommended booklist.

I find it really strange that the school just gives us the book lists and the notice from Scholastic Book Clubs w/o any explanation. The recommended book list is from the Book Clubs and not from school. I am not too sure what level the books are, and whether they are suitable for my daughter.

Most of the books are available at Page-One and you are free to read them to see if they are suitable to your daughter. Also, you can judge the level of difficulty by Reading Level Key shown under each book. Using RL as an example, the lower the RL, the easier the book. But of course, I still think that the best way to check them out personally at book stores.

Thanks for the tips. I tried looking up the scholastic site, but it's not too helpful. I saw the reading level key, but can't really judge what's suitable. I guess it's best to check out the books on the shelf.
