I just thought I would give a few opinion on my experience.

I'm a British Born Chinese and so I have studied in UK all my life. However I have came across many Chinese people from boarding school and at University (London) and I think many people seem to send their Children to UK without fully understanding the effects.

I am of course sterotyping, Not all Hkers who come to study in UK are like this but many are.

When I went to university I was shocked by the level of English these HK students have. They have been studying in UK since GCSE but they can't string a sentence together and their essay writing is horrendous. Even at a top university. A big reason for this is because they have been hanging round Chinese people when they are here. Hence in my opinion I don't think sending your child to famous boarding schools is always the best idea. This is because there is a high Chinese community in such schools. In contrast small grammer schools in the countryside forces you to get to know students from other nationalities and of course practise their English which is I assume your main aim of sending them to UK. I know people who comes from the most random school in UK which you have never heard off but actually their level of English is far higher than some who comes from the apparently better colleges.

Sometimes we should remember what is our aim for sending our students to UK. It is for them to broaden their horizon and realise there is a world outside of HK making them a better person. Instead most ends up doing things that they would do in HK or more because they are outside of their parents reach. Sometimes just make sure you keep track of your Child if possible in the UK visiting them etc, just to check that they haven't been distracted otherwise by the so called Chinese society that exist in UK. All they do is drink alcohol and doing whats not.

I see to many Hkers in school wasting their parents money. Going shopping, clubbing, and spending it on other things and end up failing their first years at University. Sometimes being stricter on them is necessary.

There is not too much point to this, but its just my two cents from what I can see. Parents seem to not know what happens to their kids when they are in UK and I just want to stress the importance of checking up on them when you can if not they can stray far from the road that you wanted them to be on.

I couldn't agree more with what you said, I have seem them in my time in the UK. Except in the old days students aren't as well off as they are now. And not much entertainments then.

But you've to understand not all students can enter state schools, only those with a british passport can do so. Given the chance most HK parents would send their kids to good state schools, think of the money they can save!
Instead most go to the popular boarding schools their agents/friends recommend, where there's always a large community of Chinese students. My niece is currently in 6th form in one of the top grammar schools, there are still many HK students and speck Cantonese among themselves, except that these kids are very smart & bright, and their use of English isn't a problem. They know they are there to study and get good grades.

Sorry I didn't live near Wycombe School and I don't know many people from that school so I will be unable to provide advise. Well I know of several good schools around my area where I grew up. Ryde School with Upper Chine on the Isle of Wight is very good. They have good results, brilliant student care and when I was there, there were only 5 Chinese people there. Everyone turned out going to decent unis with great results. Not a famous school at all, but one I loved dearly.

Also there is Portsmouth Grammer School which I knew to be quite good. I heard cheltenham College is not bad either.
