Hi Everyone,

I wonder if there's any P.1 applicant in the past whose father is a RC old boy but got rejected to admit in P.1 for some reason?

I'm a RC old boy from P.1 to F.5 and love this school so much. I want to let my son study in RC as well, but he's a small boy (who was born in late Oct), and I'm worrying he won't get accepted as RC explicitly state that they prefer big kids.

Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

相信被 reject 的, 都唔會知原因吧...

如果真係心儀呢間小學, 就唔好理佢有幾多機會, 做好準備去面試便可, good luck

Thanks.  We will surely apply for RC.  I'm just estimating our chance of getting admitted into RC.  If the chance is just like everyone (non-old-boy) or small (due to small kid), we may have to consider moving to net12 for the lucky draw.....

I'm interested to know for cases either:
- father is an old boy and the kid got admitted
- father is an old boy but the kid couldn't get admitted

I am an old boy and my kid was admitted to RC.  My kid does not have the age problem as yours.  But one thing I am sure, old boys' kids have higher chances of admission than others (as high as 99.9% .. just a personal belief).

I wonder whether the present headmaster had been your teacher when you were still a school boy.  Why not give her a call.  Perhaps she may still recognize you.

Found this thread while browsing.  My kid got admitted for 2012/13 and my hubby was an old boy from kindergarten till Form 7 in RC.

Guess they are pretty generous towards applications from old boys.

個人感覺R C是會考慮關係這一項因素。我認識幾位家長，兒子十一月 / 十二月出生，而哥哥正在讀或曾讀R C 而考入了。
我兒子的同學十月中出生，爸爸是old boy。

That's quite beyond expectation! Actually, we didn't just sit there and wait, we wrote a letter to the principal to express our desire to be admitted right after the second interview.

May be you can think about writing to the principal as well.  Judging from the dialogue in different threads in BK, I guess someone is going to give up the seats.

Hope is still there.  Don't give up!!

Your case is really rare in the past.  Perhaps it is due to the following reasons:

1.  the client base has been doubled up when the school changed to co ed.  Its now the fourth year for the change, more and more parents are aware of that.
2.  the introduction of small classes further accelerates the number of applications.  In the past, there was no 2nd round interview at RC.

Anyway, don't give up.  My classmate's kid was confirmed a place in June this year for the admission 2011/2012.

Thanks everyone for the replies.  I haven't been checking this thread for quite a long while.

I have heard a similar case that a kid (not small boy) of my friend who is RC old boy only got waiting list, very disappointing, so he wrote so many letters to RC afterwards.  Finally he's got an offer from St. Joseph through lucky draw, and RC offered him a seat as well in around June (2011).

So it seems like the old boy advantage is diminishing.....

Am thinking about having my son to repeat K2 now...

My boy is a small boy (no relationship at all) also got admitted for 2012-13 P1.
I suggest no need to repeat K2, go ahead to study K3 and apply the primary school, If really can't succeed at the end, you can repeat K3 instead. So you have 2 chances.
Some of my friends also used this strategy.

Thanks bb@wonderland, it's good news to hear some small boy success case!  I realized that in their 2012-13 P1 application form, they took away "prefer big kid" clause.  So I guess it's really about the kid's interview performance.
I'm more inclined to have my son to repeat K2 now, more because I want him to have a better foundation, as he's now slightly behind, I'm afraid even he got admitted to RC primary (with my old-boy relationship plus whatever connection I can get for help), he may still find it difficult to catch up.
