Dear all parents, i needa make a choice between RCHK and AIS (American International School) for my son Junior G1 . i have seen quite a lot of comments for AIS, good academic and U admission... sb say RCHK is quite easy in their academic level and AIS is quite messy in student relationship and drugs....
i have to make the decision within 7 days. can any true user share their real experiences with school??? truly appreciated!!

AIS does have rigorous academics.  I particularly like their guided reading program. The kids' English reading levels improve amazingly fast. They have daily homework so parents always know what is being taught in school. They teach English writing and math really well too. I have never heard of student drug use.  Not sure what you mean by messy student relationships, but I imagine that's really pretty much the same in any school these days. As your son is just entering G1 Junior, that's really too far in the future to worry about anyway...

Yes I have two children at AIS. In general, we are satisfied with the school. It seems to me AIS has been unfairly perceived by the public for a long time--for reasons unknown to me.  Many of the negative comments appear to have come from people who have no real knowledge of the school.   For example, I have seen posts saying that AIS students dye their hair, wear makeup to school, wear mini-skirts as uniforms, etc., and none of those is true. I go to the school very often and have seen a lot of students, not only in elementary school but middle school and high school as well, and I have never seen any unnatural hair color (e.g., pink, green or blue) or anyone wearing visible makeup. AIS girls' dress uniform has cullottes, which are shorts shaped like skirts and, in my opinion, much more functional than skirts. There has never been any mini-skirt. The academics at AIS are very strong. My children have learned so much from school (not just repetitive exercises but actual real knowledge like history, culture, etc.) that it's unbelievable. We have friends with children the same age as ours who are in other schools including HKIS, Harrow, ESF, etc., and it's clear that AIS's academics, particularly in the early years, are much stronger than those other schools.  Our children are all still young so don't know much yet about later years.  Class size is small. For Grade One Junior, it's usually 17-18 children per class. For Grade One to Three, typically around 22. Students are usually very friendly towards one another.

i finally chose RCHK... i believe both are good schools...  since AIS only has less than 20% local students, it is pretty hard for me to find any true experience from my personal network... however, i do have quite some friends'kids studying in different ESF and comments are good and positive.... further more, RCHK is so close to my apartment and it take him only 5 mins to get there... if i pick AIS, i have to move everything close to AIS since i really dont want my son spend so much time in travelling or school bus.... i think i will probably change the school after he grow bigger coz i final plan is to send him US for university....
