ESF Tsing Yi or Sunnyside

hi all mommies,

i know there have been similar topics on this site, but as i couldn't figure out how to respond to the existing topics, i had to set up a new topic!

my daughter will enroll K1 this September and i've been pretty indecisive about wihch kinder to send her.

i have basically 3 options (yes, we've paid deposit to all the 3....): Sunnyside (Jordan), Kowloon Baptist Church Kindergarten or ESF Ting Yi.  most of the pupils from these schools go to ESF primary, so in that sense, not drastically different, but there are some differences...

Sunnyside (Jordan): my daughter has been attending a play group session at this kinder. if she goes on to K1 here, it'll be good in a sense that it is a familar place for my daughter. most of the teachers are very nice and have been working there for many years. pupils have diverse backgrounds: indian, african, western, and chinese background. kids seem quite active and happy. tution fee is reasonable (2300HKD). only set back is that K1-2 class looks a bit crowded. there are around 50 kids in a class, though there are about 5 adults(3 teachers & 2 assistants) as well.

KBCK (Kowloon Tong): has a good reputation also for their teachers. they have a school bus from where we live, however, takes 40 minutes. (we don't live so far away, but i was told that the bus stops at many locations.) just like many other parents who placed a message on this site, my daughter has also been given a PM session. tution fee is the same as Sunnyside. class size is 30 with 2 adults.

ESF Ting Yi: we thought it's far from home but turned out that it takes only 20 minutes from where we live, as the school bus won't stop after fetching children in our area. each class is only 21 pupils with 1 teacher & 2 assistants.  they provide putonghua lessons. AM class. good/new facility.  unlike the Sunnyside or KBCK, teachers are rather new as the kinder itself was established only in '99. not sure how this may affect the quality of care/teaching. at least the teacher i talked to during the orientation in April seemed nice. tution fee is double the other two kinders. also my concern is that it'll take at least half an hour for me to get there in case of emergency.

As we don't want to take a PM class, KBCK is probably not the choice for us. (also 40 minutes bus ride is too long for 3 years old kid.) Between Sunnyside or ESF TY, I'm still being indecisive. Facility & class size wise, ESF seems better. I'm also attracted to Putonhua lessons though i understand that 2 lessons per week is not enough to make them fluent. at least it's good introduction to the language. on the other hand, what I like Sunnyside about is that the environment is relaxed and caring, yet, have certain displine: they pray before snack time etc. they also hold small concerts at a church (as this kinder is a part of Kowloon Union Church), naturally exposing children to a bit of a church culture. though we're not that devoted christian, i think it's important for children to learn a concept of apprecitation to things surrounding her (people/living, food etc.) how do teachers at the ESF TY teach displine, care, love etc? Do the pupils there also have a chance to participate in concerts etc ( i forgot to ask these questions during the tour.)? as long as teachers are nice/caring and committed to teach children the importance of love/appreciation etc., i don't really mind whether the basis is christian or not. (i myself is not christian anyway, though the rest of my families are christian.)

sorry for a loooooooong message, but i'll appreciate any suggestion or information other mommies can share!

sharing from mommies of ESF TY pupils will be particularly appreciated!

Ray
