Hi, all RC parent, may I know which kinder your kids studied? and if I want my kid study in RC, it's also related which kinder he studied? they accept only kids who studied in int's kinder or both int's and local kinder? and the interview is difficult? do they hv any cat. like holding foreigner pspt hv higher chance to get in? mixed kids easier to get in as well?? or they just see the performance of the kids during interivew?
In fact, my boy now is studying PN in greenfield(int's class), but I 'm not sure to send him to REAL international kinder for entering RC or CWB?? I like greenfield, to me, they hv structure for teaching and kids can do whatever they want, they must follow the rules, and they do teach hand writing and later on, there is phonic teaching as well..
If I need to real int' kinder, I must choose abacus(for entering either RC or CWB), but I 'm really worry they 're too freedom... so anyone can tell me what I can do or wu u mind sharing your thought and experience here?
Millions THks!!!

In my opinion, it doesn't matter which kinders the kids are come from as long as their English standard, especially the communicative ability in English.  In my child's case, she studied a local kinder which doesn't stress very much on English.  So I have been teaching her English at home to improve her standard.  To secure a bigger chance, try to find ways to make certain your child can understand and express his/herself in English. Good luck!

The only requirement would be that a child is able to communicate with the interviewer in English.
I heard there have been children from international kindergartens that failed the interview, but there have also been some children from local kindergartens that succeeded. So I do not think they really care where you were from.
You might thus consider it logical that english speaking western kids would stand a higher chance since they naturally have better English standard than most local chinese kids.

My daughter is Y1 student now.  She studied in a really local kindergarten, though the kindergarten has had relatively high proportion of English class taught by NET, in comparing with other local kindergarten.

Of course, studying in international kindergarten has had its advantage, because the students from there should be able to understand English instruction, which is very important when the student attends the screening process.

So, for those students from local kindergartens, home teaching would be more important.  Home reading, basic English communications, and other English playgroup would be helpful to strengthen these students' ability and confidence.

From last year’s experience, the importance of “development stage” was emphasized.  What I understood it refers to: able to follow instruction, basic communication skills, basic motion ability, basic written skills (able to write names etc.).

I don’t think RCHK has had so called “nationality” policy.  In theory, RCHK is a private independent school (PIS) under the management of ESF.  So, strictly speaking, RCHK is not a tradition ESF school, which has priority given to non-Chinese speaking children.  Secondly, under PIS, given the free land granted by the government, 70% of school places should be allocated to Hong Kong PR (correctly me, if I am wrong!!).

Nevertheless, what I feel is that the competition to get a place in RCHK is increasingly keen, maybe the admission requirement would be raised later and be biased against local kindergarten due to English ability.  BUT, one more thing I wanted to share: before you decide which type of kindergarten your kid goes to, think about Chinese learning.  RCHK Y1 students already need to write Chinese, my daughter is quite easy to follow and to learn after K1 and K2 training, but I heard that some (only some but not all) students from international kindergarten have had low incentive to learn.

My daughter studied in a kindergarten runby 聖公會 in NT, so definitely no international class.  It's also why my daughter learnt Chinese during K1 and K2.  The reason we put her there is we did not make up our mind to send her to RCHK .

As Jennyl said, RCHK has secondary school, a through train school.  So, it is not my concern yet!
