Check this website:
http://www.eaa.unsw.edu.au/

For schools of HK taking part in the test, the results are compared among HK students. High distinction = top 1%, Distinction = next 10%.... Since local school students also take part in the test, I believe high marks in Math often go to local students. Usually they can only get high distinction in Math if they get almost all questions right.

可能你不知道參加總人數,因為3科都不同的;

英文: 全港參加總人數是:6146;最top1%(high distinction)=62
數學: 全港總參加總人數是:969;最top1%(high distinction)=10
科學:全港參加總人數是:567;最top1%(high distinction)=6

咁算唔算好差呢?

有接近一半的學生只可被評為Participation(Maths & Science),我覺得真係幾差囉!

sorry,我唔係想針對邊間學校,只係想了解多點,睇下自己將來可以怎樣幫囝囝做好一些!

用欣賞的角度看,有一半人或以上有credit或以上的成績都不算是很差的...

不要選這間學校便是...

I think there is one more factor (which people might have overlooked) that might affect the overall results.

I know that quite some schools are taking part in this test --- including both local and international schools. Many schools are releasing the results out, showing the ranks/grades and percentages, etc.

However, most schools have/do not mentioned anything about the which year levels of assessments their students are taking part in.

I know that one school (I do not want to disclose the name) asked their students to take part in assessments for grades/year levels that are one year behind their actual grades. For example, a Grade 3 student might merely be taking part in a Grade 2 assessment. Some schools are, however, more honest, and are taking part in the assessment of the actual grade.

Of course, we agree that because of the differences in the time frames of the school year (their school year starts in January down under). I have heard that because there is such an "excuse", one school has asked their Grade 5 students to take a Grade 3 assessment.

So it is quite unfair to say that the results are that bad. And it would be quite unfair too, if those results are compared to results of another school, without knowing what year level of assessments the schools are taking part in.

If we are talking about SIS, whether you like the school or not, I would have thought that this school is decent enough and would not play tricks with their results.

PS I am totally unrelated with SIS, in case some people are interested. I am not trying to defend any school but would like people to think twice before deciding how you want to decode those results.

Oh, that is an interesting point!  I have just looked through the "Frequently Asked Questions" of the website and it states:

Q Can my child sit an ICAS in the year level above (or below) his/her scho ...

Hmmm.
I do not know how they regulate the age/year level issue.
But, I do have a friend with a kid in one school, that did sit for the assessment 2 years below his actual age group.......
Wonder how that school get around with that.
And I have always thought.... how smart that school was.....

Referring to someone as smart is not necessarily complimentary.  I guess Almom did not rate that school very highly when she said it was smart.

"Smart" can also mean impertinent, insolent or canny in dealings with others.
