葉氏兒童合唱團-幼兒音樂啟蒙班

could any parents share the experience of joining the 葉氏兒童合唱團幼兒音樂啟蒙班?
Was it good in terms of
  • course curriculum
  • arrangement including class size and class flow
  • teachers' qualification
  • do the children enjoy it and really learn something solid in music
thanks.

My son has taken Yip's music toddler course for 2 years (K1 and K2) and he quitted the course when he started K3 (well, I decided for him to quit, of course). I think for the first year or so, that is quite okay. My son really got to learn some music theory and some music history (really not much. I have grade 8 piano competence. So, I know quite well how much he's learned (as long as he told me about it)). And the teacher who taught him was a very nice person and my son liked him very much. So, overall it's an enjoyable experience.

But I started to sense that by second year, his "musical knowledge" hasn't progressed as much as his first year. First, Yip's decided not to release the exam papers which they usually did in the past. Second, my son stopped telling me what he's learned in the course. He still enjoyed it but I didn't get anything new from his mouth (well, he used to tell me, a hat means a 2 count rest, Beethoven was deaf and he composed "dang dang dang dang" (the fifth symphony). And he got to recognize what Beethoven looked like. This was what he told me in the first year when he was still 3 years old after taking the course). So, I had no way to know what my son has learned in his second year. And I also discovered that they put all the children in different levels in a single classroom and all the children were taught by two teachers at the same time. They have like 4-5 levels (K1 has like 2 levels, K2 2-3 levels, etc) altogether. When I asked the teacher about how well my son did in class. He only said it's good, "not bad". Nothing very specific.

So, in the end, I thought it's time for him to quit the course after two years. If you ask me whether it's worthwhile. For the first year, yes. But if you ask me whether it's worthwhile to go through all the levels, I would say "no".

thanks very much, I just want to give my daughter some good music lessons before 4 years old (since she's 2.9 years old now). From 4 years old onwards, it might be another kind of class for her.
thanks.

thank you very much for your opinion as i am struggle whether continue or quit for my daughter. She is enjoy the class but i feel expensive and too many children in the same class, it seems not wothly to join. I think your idea is good as i will let her continue half or 1 year as per you suggestion.

My daughter used to go to thier music toddler year and after 2 years, she completed all 8 levels and quited.  We went on taking piano lesson and agreed with yymom07 that she really know her music.  But as she got older and there are so many other more interesting "musical" to learn, Yip's is not able to deliver and meet her needs.  BTW, I got so many calls try to keep us there for other courses such as violin, drama & dancing class.  The problem is that I wanted my daughter to take piano lesson after she built up her basic musical knowledges which Yip's is not able to provide.  I find my daughter knows more about music than her cousin taken similar course at Tom Lee.
