Does anybody have experience with YUS5?   Is it suitable for a small room of approx. 110 sq.ft.  The room is sparcely furnished with a sofa and a few pieces of toys.   I'm a bit worried about the acoustics.     I was told that YUS5's sound way may be too loud for it.    My other Option is YUS3, but frankly, it's a compromise as YUS5 is way more superior.

YUS5的經驗就沒有,U-3就沒問題。
不過見APA幾間細房都是放三角琴都可以接受,相信問題應不大。

Are you using U3?  How do you find it?  Do you know if YUS5 is a lot more dynamic than YUS3?

APA's rooms are 'customised' for piano playing so I think the sound effect is a lot better compare to a home environment.    I really like YUS5 and desparately want to be assured that it is ok for a small room.   The piano salesman told me it's loud enough to rock the floor!!!  That freaks me out.

YUS 5 is a beautiful piano. Acoustics wise in your small room (not that small btw) shouldn't be a problem. Ensure you don't have a lot of glass in there. Ensure there is carpet, curtains in the room and you should be good.

YUS5 personally I think is intended for either "FOREVER" use, or  if you are buying it for your child who is in the upper grades.

If you are just wanting to buy a good upright piano, but will consider upgrading, I would buy YUS1.

Would never consider YUS3, as the price difference, might as well go to YUS5.

Personally speaking, YUS1 is good enough for any students up to Grade 6.... and then when your child is serious enough, then look into grand piano is possible, or upgrading to the pianos that are THEN available.

I think YUS5 is a very expensive upright to invest for 1st piano.

Just my opinion. I advise all my beginning students to buy YUS1 over U series if you can afford it.

Truly a difference between the two series.

Thank you for all your valuable contributions.

Pianokc, what you said is precisely why I'm agonising over it.   The room has all the UNdesirable features of an acoustically desirable room - HUGE glass window, an equally huge mirrored wardrobe, 2 concrete walls, roller blinds, and wooden floor.  Even if I throw a rug on the floor and a foam behind the soundboard, the difference may not be significant simply because of the hard surfaces on the four sides.

I am a rusty old G8 who started piggy backing on her child's piano since he began learning.   If the 'loudness' of YUS3 & 5 is comparable, I'll go for the latter as it is so much more superior and a pleasure to play.   However, the salesman insisted that YUS5 is way too dynamical for our small space.

My heart tells me to go for the YUS5, but I do worry this could turn into an expensive & 'noisy' mistake.

seriously, with your heart set on that piano already, and with obvious reasons. The ivorite keys, the sostenuto pedal, the sound, touch, tone.... if it is in your budget. Go for it. The piano is not just an instrument, or furniture, it becomes part of your life. So, buy it, and see what it will be like in the room, you can ALWAYS modify the room so the sound is to your liking. You can't buy another piano that has captured your heart.

Good luck.

I think wooden floor is good, just add rug, and if you can change the blinds to curtains, and the mirror wardrobe, add cloth to it. But I think unless the mirror is directly behind you, the sound shouldn't be too bad.

One very good option too, since you are an adult intending to pick up piano again..... look into buying the silent piano option of YUS5. It comes very handy in a place like in HK, in Canada, I never consider it, but now, some of my students have it, it's actually very very useful.

Good luck, and all the best.

Thanks for being my sounding board.   I'm believe I am one notcher closer to making up my mind.   Yes, unfortunately, the mirror is directly behind the piano but I think I'll find ways to compensate it.   I guess I wasn't mentally prepared to make modifications earlier as I like the room the way it is, and the idea takes time to sink in.

I have thought of the silent YUS5 too but TL doesn't carry the model, only up to YUS3.  It's a practical function for sure.    So, between these two, which would you recommend for your students?

Btw, I searched the web and found that Yamaha Singapore sells YUS5 $13,000 cheaper than TL in HK!   It doesn't feel good to know that TL takes such a deep cut.
