Dear all,

I am a new user and I hope BK parents can help me by sharing their opinions on the above comparison based on the following information.

I am waiting for results of Raimondi and will have 2nd in of St Stephen's and Ying Wa soon.  My son is quite quiet but he has a keen interest to learn and he can listen to teachers attentively.   He likes doing homework too.  My son is a disciplined and orderly boy and he can be confused if there is no instruction for what he should do.  We would like to choose a school which my son is likely to enjoy the learning process while not facing too much pressure in homework.

According to my knowledge,

St Stephen's is quite free and children seem to enjoy school life.  Will he fit in this free environment?   How well is their academic achievements?

Ying Wa's students seem to be quite active and presentable, and the principal emphasises on happy learning.  I have heard that the principal is trying to add more difficulty to the curriculum to raise the students' overall exam results.  I'm concerned if there will be too much homework or projects to do.

Raimondi is a traditional school and the interviewer hinted during the interview that homework may be substantial and parents should try not to engage the child in too many extra-curricular activities.  My concern of too much homework applies to Raimondi too.

In addition, how is their students' English and Putonghua?  Do they all have a high standard in both?  Or maybe St Stephen's is superior in this aspect?

May I ask which school listed above will be more suitable to my son?  Thank you in advance for your sharing.

St Stephen's is the most famous probably because of its long history, but there have been very diverse opinions about it.  If your son is quiet and disciplined, the style of the school may not be too suitable to your son unless you want to change him into a talkative and active boy - this can be a painful process though.

Ying Wa has the largest number of applicants among the 3 schools you mentioned.  I'm sure its popularity has a reason, but its fame seems to be new and the school is quite dynamic, constantly undergoing changes.

I am not familiar with Raimondi but it has nearly 1200 applicants this year; even so, few BK parents seem to take it as their first choice - is it because it is believed to belong to the 2nd-tier group of schools?

The three schools you quoted are all good. Have you talked to your son and see what kind of school life he prefers? Besides, location and money maybe also a concern.

When your son gets the 2nd interview, observe more and talk to the students there to see whether the schools are suitable or not.

Can you share how you know so much about this school? Do you have children or friends' klds studying in this school, or are you in the teaching field or know someone teaching there?

I also believe SSCPS is a good school, but I don't know much about its secondary school.

Sorry my son does not have 2nd interview chance from SPCCPS...

Raimondi does not require 2nd interview, only 1 round.

Now I am really scared after reading your comments.  Looks like no school in HK is suitable for my son...what am I to do?

SPCCPS is suitable to your kid and any kind of traditional schools. We would like to choose a school which my son is likely to enjoy the learning process while not facing too much pressure in homework. No such school in HK.

My concern of too much homework applies to Raimondi too. (Only need to concern if you got the 2nd interview.)

No school is particularly suitable to your kid.[/quote]

Hi ykha
I think it's relativity to how you view things.  some people think 5 pieces of homework is unbearable, some people think it's not sufficient. Suggest you go and visit the schools in the morning or afternoon, try to talk to other parents. I believe most of the parents are willing to share.  Try to listen to more sides of the stories and analyse yourself, don't rely on comments from single source.

Don't worry, Raimondi is also a good school. Some of my friends' sons studied in Raimondi and were happy there. They could enter good secondary schools too. Don't let your son be upset. Cheer him up. He could meet good friends and have a fruitful school life in Raimondi.

At the same time, you may try to explore other schools. At least, right now, you have already got a good school on hand. Right?

Some comments here can be very biased.
Dont worry too much until you get the offers from the schools.

3間都係好學校.

個人覺得Ying wah 同 Raimondi 既教學模式比較類似, 較傳統, 如果要比較呢兩間, 一間係中小, 一間係英小.

Raimondi is a good choice actually.  I asked the same question 2 yrs before when my son was in K3.    As last, I choose RC because it's net 12, many good sec. schools for choosing with the backup of RC Sec.    BTW, you will make a right choice to take St. Stephen if it is a must to send you kid to study U overseas.  Even the kindergarten's Principal of my son has the same comment.
