My son has been accepted to ESF WKS K1. I understand that the fee will be $5630 each month, but I am curious if there will be any other charges (like those local kindergartens you need to pay books fee, snack fee, activities fee)??

lottieclee,

My boy went to the Abacus play visit in mid January (last month), he did quite well and was able to interact with some of the teachers who stayed long enough to talk to them...  but somehow I received a letter asking for a revisit...  I am so worry now!  My kid only speaks English and I was so certain that he will got an offer (my invitiation letter says a place have been reserved for him) and so I did not bother to enrol in his current nursery...  now I am so worry....  do you know why they need to arrange for a revisit?  Both myself and my husband speaks a fair bit of Cantonese as we lived in Hong Kong before we were 12 years old....  do you have any idea how likely they will deny us an offer after the revisit   ?

Thanks a lot!!!

A revisit?  It means they have to re-assess his English proficiency. Children only speaks English may not mean that the English is good enough.

I wouldn't worry too much... Did you have the play visit with Lynn or can you remember the teacher's name?

At the revisit, see if you can get a hold of Frances, the principal and ask her what is going in,  As far as I know, there are an unbelievable number of siblings applying for Abacus this year. I know 10 from the current K2 class alone!

Thanks lottieclee for your reply.

Actually, in the letter, they said my kid was kind of quiet that they need to hear more of his spoken language.  However, as i was there with him myself, my boy was in quite a good mood that day, he even named all the different species of dinosaurs of the lego blocks in front of him to one of the teachers, Ailsa, when he was being asked.

However, during our session, there were so many teachers came by and sat for a while to observe.  Some did ask questions, however, my son is the shy type, he needs some warm up with unfamiliar faces before he will interact, so quite a few of the teachers just didn't stay long enough to get a response from my kid.

Now I am worry that on the revisit, what if my kid is not in a good mood...  then he will be all grumpy etc...

You think it's a good idea to bring along a report card from his current nursery?  His teacher at Tutortime did commented that he can converse really well in English with the teachers.

Thanks again lotieeclee.

Take it easy, tell him you are going back to the school to play.  The teachers there are superb and nice.  It is just that this year, there are so many siblings that maybe they could not put a face to a name when they see your son's name on the roster.

Don't stress out too much.  And your son would be in a good mood.  Make sure you bribe him and tell him you are going shopping or going to his favouritr restaurant afterwards, it always work with my kids.
