Re: RC vs ESF
I talked with Mr Yu, Head of Chinese of RC, after the curriculum night. He told me that even ESF schools eventually switched to IB, they would only treat Chinese as foreign language, like French. However, RC treats Chinese as a second language and thus definitely emphasizes more on Chinese than other ESF schools.
Of course, things may change as time passes by because educational service is also market driven. You can tell from ESF's "Way Forward" Newsletter that ESF also needs to have some changes to survive (e.g. switching to IB and adding Chinese) in view of the potential cut of subvention.
If the Chinese standard/exposure is not your concern (at least at the moment), ESF schools may be a right choice as they have proven records of success (public exam results). However, if you would like to your children to have more exposure to Chinese, you may consider putting them to RC. |
