Can anyone tell me more about KBCK like :

- Why did you apply for this school?
- Any idea on the class size?
- How much is the school fees?
- What kind of teaching approach are they offering?
- I know quite some graduates escalated to ESF but what about the others? To IS?

Thank you so much.

Hi mienmien,

My son is now in K2 and he is very happy.

Why did you apply for this school?
I chose KBCK because his cousins studied the school before and recommended by their mother.

Thanks for the information. It was really useful. Something that I couldn't derive from the website. Sounds like a very wonderful learning environment for a 3 yr old. Do you know what do the ESF teachers do during the observation?

BTW, could you tell your son is catergorised as Category 1 or Category 2, please.

Dear YLau.
Let me tell you - trust your child and they can performance better than you expect. : )

My sis-in-law also said she was very worried in her daughter's interview for Beacon Hill 9 years ago but she eventually impressed the interviewers by tellng stories. My sis-in-law said she did not train her but "subconciously" the girl being guided to tell more in the interview - making the interviewers think she had bro and sis. Actually she did not. : )

Also thanks for the advice on ESF kindergarten.
I want a school that has a positive atmosphere with "structured" program.
ESF knidergarten not. And I do not want to put my girl to the ESF kinder for ESF "so-called" priority for interview.
We have the ability to show we are English speaking family on native level. I dislike to limit my choice to that one who has a very inflexible system.
(They consider us as cat 2 just because I myself am HK chinese. They do not "see" other proofs)

I do not mind the school using interview to "test/ make sure" their language ability (English) however I do not like the school to trick / to rule out the children / familiy who look like "knowing" Chinese......

That 's why I change from only sticking to ESF (KJS) to now considering other international school for P1.

Oh...pardon me distract the topic. For kindergarten, we may be choosing between KBCK and Starters. Your words about KBCK reinforce me. THANKS!

Kind regards,
Maria

Hi Ylau,

do you have any special concern about your child's chinese incase you have to resort to local school for primary?
Do you mean that the particular ESF primary ( which we apply for ) will send teacher to KBCK to do observation?

Thanks!

Dear YLau.
I have some questions in my mind about KBCK:

Could you tell me more about the "content" or the cirriculum of the K1 and K2 class?

i.e. What I want to know is :

"do they go thru (letterland/ jolly) phoincs in K1?"
"do they have books taken back home and require they to read every day?"
"what do KBCK require the child to do in "show and tell" time?
"do they need to learning writing?"
"do they have any picnics and outings or other school activities?"
"do they have parent meeting? how the school communicate to the parents?

I dont mind the environment as what I shortlist now are not fancy and big schools.

Also when do the parents get the result after the KBCK interview?

What is the chance of getting AM session?

(It seems we are in the very early batch of the interview - 4 Feb 2009. We sent in the application in September 2006.)

Many THANKS!
Maria

Dear YLau, Dear matthewdad,

I really appreciate your great sharing. Very very helpful.

Could I ask the last quetsion, hopefully: ))

What is the nationality of the students usually in KBCK?
I mean, is there high portion of non-chinese students (like cascasians, indians, japanese,...)?

Would the chinese students speak chinese among themselves ?

(Like my child 's native language is English but she can utter some cantonese words if somebody talks to her in canto - e.g. security in our flats, those granny and grandpa in the parks...but she doesnt understand what they say in canto)

Or you think I am only over-worried.....

Big THNAKS!
Maria

There are a lot of Asian face in my son's class. No golden hair. From the name list, there are some Indian name, Korean name, Japanese name, Singaporean/Malaysian chinese name, Chinese name and Hong Kong name. I think there are at least 30% are local HK but all communicate in English as the school only allow them to speak Englsih at school.

It seems you only have chance for PM class or waitng list. For those born in Jan 2006 (if my calculation is right), they can submit the application form 2 years before you.

Sorry I get my calculation wrong. For those born on Jan 2006, they can submit the application in Jan 2006. i.e. 10 months before you. Of course, this is an extreme case. Don't worry too much.

Aiya... I am very frustrated here!
My girl got accept from Anfield (Whampoa Campus). But she will get an interview on next week. Don't know what to choose if she got accepted. Andfield is walkable distance but $2000 different between KBCK.
Lots of Pros and cons in my mind here:
1) KBCK:cheaper tuition
2) KBCK Seems high chance to get into ESF
3) Anfield provide mandarin lesson
4) Anfield seems more focus on discipline training

Anyone can help me one whatelse of good and bad side of these 2 schools~

Thanks a million

[1) Can I know usually how early do the parents send the application form?
-once the birth certiicate is available.
eg. my son was born in Oct 07, is it a bit late if I send now?
- it is still ok but less chance to get to AM class.
2) I also want to know if my son's mother language is Chinese, and I start teach him english /join english playgroup from 1 yr old, is it possible to enter KBCK?
- They only requiredthe kids understand English instruction and express thier needs in simple English. Join some English playgroup will definitely help.
3) is religion a must?
- No.
