there are a nos of mums who prefer final placement over nos of offer stats. they think that the nos of offers stats would include the cases in which one kid got a nos of offers, while the final placement results would only include the one school that one kid is going... i think this thought is really anti-stats.
regardless which of these two stats you prefer, bear in mind it would not be repeated in your own cases.
the final placement result stats also include the personal flavor or circumstantial reason, like kids gave up a few offers for aided schools in which the admission does not depend on kids capabilities but luck! that is, the final placement stats omit the important nos of offers that the kids could have acquired but reflect largely the personal choice finally made by the parents.
from the nos of offer stats, you could calculate the **average** nos of offer by every kids, that is a meaningful indicator from the stats perspective. because the admission to DSS/private schools largely depends on kids capabilities, the nos of offer is actually an indicator of kids' capabilities on average. you may discount the stats by considering on average each kid applied X nos of school, you may come out your own estimate.
if you are interested in particular school, say DGS, you could calculate by your own, for example, last the admission rate to dgs is 4.3% assuming 800 nos of sc graduates... if you discount the based no by considering dgs is a gal school and the fact that only portion of gals, say 80%, would apply dgs, the estimated admission rate to dgs is over 10%
the best arrangement of graduate stats that i have seen is made by LH. they disclosed the nos of offer stat in Feb, when the dss/private offers should have been fully announced, and the final placement stats in sep, when all kids confirmed the school they are going.
