May I know what text books are your kids using for the simplified chinese ?  

As far as I know, the secondary Y 7 upwards are using the local school text books (traditional characters).

Like U, I too find it very confusing with simplified and traditional chinese.

As told by the Chinese Head, they will separate the students into groups of native Chinese and non-Chinese, and they will learn the level suitable to them.

My son's in G.6.  He's now use the textbook 3(Chinese Made Easy for Kids) with Simplified Characters publishing by 三聯書店(香港)有限公司.   
It's my concern.  I often read Chinese magazine and  story books with my children.  Actually, they have good enviornment to learn Traditional fonts in Hong Kong.

Do you know that the other ESF schools are teaching Traditional or Simplified characters?  Do you know what textbook (traditional characters) is using in Y7?

Went to the uniform shop today and bought a 'just-arrived' fisherman hat. The lady there told me that there would be a new long-sleeve t-shirt for wearing underneath the polo shirt in winter. Awesome!!

There are 4 levels of Chinese in Y7 and as far as I know 2 levels are using Longman Grade 6 textbooks and workbooks used in local schools, but I am not sure about the other 2 levels.

Oh, that's very good already as Y7 is equivalent to P.6 in local schools.  Thanks a lot for your info.

i'm interesting to apply RC for my son.  But my son is P. 1 student at a traditional school and if he study at RC, he need to apply Y3 .  i'm afraid he can't catch up with other classmates.

Btw, the office of RC said there are no more seats right now for Y2 and if the child study at local primary school MAY be no chance for interview as the school concerns the english standards.  is that ture.

If yes, refer to the application form, there are $800 non-refundable application fee, that means if i just sent the cheque for application, if they consider we are not acceptable for interview, we will lose this $800.  is that fair?  i think at least we can attend the interview and test the kid.

You only need to pay the $800 when you are invited to an interview.

i called the office again for clarify and they said this is the admin. charge - $800.  Once they receive the application, no matter the applicant have chance to interview or not, this $800 is non-refundable.

if the school have no seats and they think it is not acceptable for interview, they will sent the letter to you.  And that it.

i think this is not fair for the applicant as $800 is too high if we don't have the interview.  If it is just $100-200, i think is acceptable, but $800.........

Yes. Agree but we didn't have choice if we deceide to apply. Last year,I  pay the application fee to SJS but finally no interview.  Then, pay $800 to Phoniex (now is RC) for application again lucky accepted.  Otherwise, loss money again.

$800 application fee (so called administration fee) is not high at all.  Some of other IS even charges you over 1,000 to 4,000 as well (without confirming you the interview yet, until a placement comes up).

What do they teach for RC P1 English class? Are they teaching any phonics class? Which phonics system they are using, Letterland / Jolly phonics?  
Also, P1 student start practising writing yet?
What other subjects do they have except English & Mandarin?
What language do they communicate among the students?
