This thread is so interesting!

In my daughter's P1 class, the words tested were:
one
two
three
four
five
six
seven
eight
nine
ten

Yet the school textbook is same as yours (I think)--mostly a ...

More dictation: more words and longer sentences.

red, green, brown, blue, yellow, pink, colour
eyes, ears, mouth, nose
house, flower, tree

Sentences:
Touch your ears.
Open your mouth.
Close your eyes.
What can you see?
Sally can see a flower.
What colour is the duck?
It's brown.

The textbook used is Step Up. It uses "whole language" method of teaching beginning reading. This is outdated, beginning reading should have phonics and rhyming as foundations of learning reading and writing. Since these are not taught, students and parents must suffer by figuring out phonics on their own (or else doing meaningless memorization of words they may easily forget).
