he is looking for a novel about life in a communist country. all I can think of is "animal farm" which is not that sort of novel. if he is looking for a novel in chinese, he can find more.

another related question, why industrial revolution happened in those countries but not asian countries.

I tend more to agree with you, there is something not quite right in the eastern way.

looking for " how useful this works for me" but not  "why it is so" .

we were the great culture with the 4 big invention but not bother to find out why they worked so.

it is a very great culture, even our GDP were the largest for many thousand years till industrial revolution, but no more progressing till recently.

so this is an interesting topic.

她與通俄文夫婿合著的《毛澤東。不為人知的故事》- this story is too dark and difficult to be understood before taking any formal modern history.


Oh, yes, 哈金- but need to check more, i think his book had lots of married life and love. not quite suitable yet.


東歐作家 - their communism was different from China, China got mixed up with the 5000 years tradtition. i envy them for having the calssical ballet even at the darkest day, so they were different.

捷克作家米蘭昆德拉，-《生命中不能承受之輕》- I read it and watch the movie but don't really understand.

books i am looking for should possess the message that chinese people are resilient, and see hope in the darkest time.
