請教:三佰萬教育基金是否足夠呢????

請教下各位如果在香港完成國際學既小學同中學,之後去外國繼續讀大學(連住宿),以現時既價格計算,三佰萬學費是否足夠呢???首先唔好談論通脹同通縮同匯率變化問題,因為呢樣野無法估計.賜教,謝謝.

If you simply put $3M in an 'endowment' fund and use only the 'interest' so generated... I'm afraid it's not quite enough to cover the tuition fees (and boarding) for those elite private Us.  

However, if you are an exceptional fund manager, say, earning an annual 15+%, there's another story.

Which school (primary, middle, high school), which university, which faculty, which city, which country.....
School fees, basic living costs (housing, food, transport, etc), and even other expenses (eg movie, beer, entertainment, etc) are very different for different places.
Check out the school fees of the schools/universities you like. Check out living costs at local property agency's website, or local supermarket websites, etc... And then compare to Hong Kong... ?

或者我講得清楚一點,例如我有16個小朋友,由小1-6,中1-6,在香港國際學校讀書,只係學費,大學1年到4年既去外國讀書,住宿舍包食.咁我有3M夠唔夠比我16個小朋友一年既學費同大學既生活費呢???

即係想問大家用40蚊足唔足夠買盒叉燒飯,去五星級酒店當然唔夠,去外國讀大學唔洗渣波子,只係基本已經足夠.我想強調係而家既價錢.唔係將來既價值,好似而家3M買唔買倒十幾年後既樓一樣,無人知.

I have gone through some of the IS websites.  As far as I can see, the most expensive ones are CIS and HKIS.  For CIS, they are talking about approximately $120,000 a year for Primary and around $144, ...

if
you have 4M now and your kid is going to P1 now,
current p1=120000 per year,
current s1=140000 per year,
current U1=300000 per year,
annual school fee inflated at 4% per year,
annual investment return is 5%,
you will still have 470,856 at the end of U4.

if the annual return is 9%, you will have 7,060,233 at the end of U4.

this is worked out in a stupid way from excel and I may be wrong.

It is my own calculation:

Pri School(per yr): e.g. ESF $58,000. , RC $64,000.
pri school fee: ~$60000 X 6 yrs= $360,000.

Sec School(per yr):  e.g. ESF $89,000., RC $93,000.
sec sch fee: ~$90,000. X  ...

Sec School years should be 7, not 6.

So around $1M for 13 years in pri and sec. excluding all other misc. and activities costs and inflation.

Overseas U with boarding:  At least $300,000 a year x 4 = $1.2M (exclude inflation)

The miscellaneous fee includes school bus, overseas study trip, book costs, luncheon box, musical instrucment etc may be upto 30-50% of the school tuition fee.
