我記得03沙士,ESF都沒有跟指引要求学生戴口罩. IS是否可以自行決定停課與否?

Swine Flu Procedures

As parents will be aware, there is a high level of concern about the possible spread of the Swine Flu virus. The Education Bureau have issued guidelines on the issue and we would urge parents not to send their child to school if he or she has a fever.

We are monitoring the situation carefully, are in close contact with the Education Bureau (EDB) and are advising schools on the best ways to ensure a hygienic environment.

Should the situation worsen and it proves necessary to suspend classes, we will ensure that teaching and learning continues. All students will continue to receive study materials and academic support – for most students this will be by electronic means.
We have already contacted EDB, the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority, the International Baccalaureate Organisation and other examination boards to discuss the situation. It is our view that it should be perfectly possible to continue our programme of public examinations, even if classes are suspended.

Your child’s school will keep you informed of all developments.

The wearing of masks and school closures are 2 issues.

I cannot remember what policies EMB had last time with the use of face masks but school closure arrangement was pretty straight forward.

International schools are a "subset" within the "school family" and are entities under the regulations of EMB.

We all follow the special arrangements with typhoons and rainstorms. So I believe it make sense that international schools would also follow what the EMB or government suggests this time as well with H1N1 influenza arrangement regarding school closures.

However with surgical masks, I guess each school can decide what they want to do, unless the EMB or government announce that everyone should start to wear one at school all the time.  At the moment, I heard that only a few local schools are asking students to wear those common surgical masks.

This is an "abstract" of the ESF Kinder newsletter only, if you want to see the full version you can PM me. ESF kinder parents can access the newsletter online to see the full version:

If children have influenza-like symptoms of fever, coughing, sore throat etc., they should seek medical advice as soon as possible. All ESF kindergartens adopt the “NO Mask” policy. Sick children should be at home until symptoms have improved and fever has subsided. Then, take rest for at least 2 more days before returning to kindergarten.

But I think as if someone has the H1N1 infected, the first week may have no symptoms, it is very hard to prevent, even with or without mask. So the best way is to suspend classes but most parents don't want to see this (but health is no.1 of course)...

If the kids is sick, please don't send them to school even there are "no" policy. But there are a lot of poor quality selfish parents who never ever consider others.
This is fundamental social ethics and self discipline.

Problem now is, the 1st week of infecting H1N1, there is no symptom, but the "potential" patients can infect other children already. So no mask policy mean it will infect easily in the first week. This is why even Japan no has so many cases.
