Just found out that they cramp 45 students into a classroom commencing current school year.  And classes start at 7:30am.  I'm starting to dislike it now..

45 people! I'm getting worry that studnents may not be getting enough attention

really? How can there be so many students in a class? Most other schools just accomodate 30 students.

My daughter is still enjoyed her school life even big class.  It's no problem for her to get attention from her teacher.

On the other hand, I'm really can see student got the attention more from small class.

Do you know how many student in the college, sometimes 120 students listening to the Prof.

If your kid is not pay attention to teacher, no matter how many student, she still not listening.

Do you think the private school can survive if they don't have enough student, they charged HK$3,xxx.00 is inexpensive in Hong Kong.  They try to get more student whose want to study in Good Hope.

Good Hope try to have their own way to teach our girls become a lady.  So they don't want to be DSS and the way similar DGJS.

If you don't really like big class school, Good Hope is not good for your girl.

Sure self-disciplined kids would have no problem paying attention in class. However, can a teacher be able to pay attention to every student and know about her/his individual needs?

College/university is a totally different story. Students are supposed to be self-disciplined and the professor or lecturer would not bother how much the students could receive in the lecture. Besides, for large sized lectures, there are usually tutorial sessions in a much smaller size for helping the students understanding the materials taught in the lectures.

I think smaller class size is the trend of today's education, both teachers and students would benefit from it.

Yes, that's what the school told me over the phone. Anybody knows how many teachers are in a class? What's the teach/no. of students ratio?? I checked with some other schools eg:

KTS & Our Lady are about 30ish
Alliance in Kowloon Tong: 40

I thought the trend is moving towards small class teaching. 45 is way too many.

Classes start at 7:30am

7:30am is rather too early, especially for families living far away, don't you think???  Getting up at 5:35am is not very good for children in their early years as lack of sleep does affect their learning ability and most importantly their physical growth.  As far as I know, GH is the only school that starts so early.

I think same in St Paul's Convent.  I heard that they have 44 kids in one class.

Dear parentslove2,

I understand the expenses for the new campus are huge.
How about the number of native speaking teachers available in this school?
If they employ NET for teaching languages, I think more parents will accept this fee.

To me, 1:45 is not a good ratio for kids to learn.
We could imagine how many times the children could have the chance to answer teacher's question.
Even they raise up their hands, however, not all the time they could express their own ideas.

I think it really depends on the character of the kids.
If he/she is tough enough, they won't give up an go on to try. However, if they are not that tough, maybe they will give up and stay passive during the lesson, and then became a quiet learner. I don't think it is on the same track of 21st century education.

Besides, if those kids with problem, I am not sure whether the school have enough resources to counsel  the kids.

That's good point.  What about discipline.  I've seen their secondary students smoke after school.  They also don't look polite compared with other girls' schools.

Oh, I now realized I misunderstood her. I thought she meant "It's not good" in answering Candyb's point. I missed the highlighted blue sentence
