I think 普通話課本和普通話練習 are mainly for "pin yin" and the kids had finished learning all the "pin yin" in P1 (not 100% sure).

We have chosen Spanish.

He voted for Japanese but changed his mind when I told him most of the people in South Amercia speak Spanish.  He likes Brazil and Argentina.

Hi P4 parents,

I find the pace and syllabus in P3 is substantially different from P2.  Honey moon period is gone and we have to face with reality.

Hi,

I am a P3 parent and I am not very happy with the book reports requirement as well.

I think the idea is good for the kids to read more books.   But, PERSONALLY, I do not think the kids would learn a lot by doing book reports and particularly in designated format.  You know, this, to a considerable extent, limits the type of book being chosen.  My kid now has more interests in reading science / history topics and we find difficulties in filling up the boxes.  

Besides, the kids would lose interest in reading if they have to provide answers to certain questions afterwards.

It would be less irritating if the book report is free format and kids are thus encouraged to express what they think / have thought about the content freely and creatively.

The school sounds like moving towards the traditional track.

You have my sympathy.

I hate the format of book report.  I look at the format of the Chinese book report seriously this morning and still (by myself) fail to find relevant information from the books my kid had read to address the questions.  

He had read a number of books about great people like Wrights brothers, James Watt, Nightingale etc. but there are no relevant words and sentences in those books to describe their outlook and dressing.

There are also questions asking for vocab description of the five senses - visual, sound, taste, smell, touch from ONE book.  

To finish the required write-up of the book report, perhaps, I have to find another books that carry those descriptions and ask him to read.  

It is the report format that dictates the choice of books.  I find it ridiculous.

You are right we should look at the positive side.

We really feel sad that we can't enjoy ECAs.
